I got the game recently but I'm confused about unlocks between the original BF2 and Special Forces. I have all 3 expansions but it appears SF is the only one with unlocks, but I have questions. Are the unlocks the same in SF as they are in BF2? Can I get all the unlocks? Or is it that I have to play BF2 to get those unlocks, and then play SF to get those unlocks? Is there any kit anyone recommends for a fairly new person? I've been playing medic but it's got no offensive force.

Thanks in advance.

As much as I hate it, many will agree: Get the G36E.

You'll see why if you pick it up off a dead guy.

PKM the support unlock is a good gun for a newer person.  You get pretty much infinite ammo/grenades through your supply bags.

The PKM itself is a beast, it shreds infantry columns rather readily.  It'll also put a pretty good hurting on helicopters and Hummers/Vodniks and all other light vehicles.  Think of it as a rapid fire M95.  Without the shooting through windshields/cockpits part of course.

I never saw the appeal of that gun. I always found the L85A1 to be better with the scope. I picked off loads of people from afar on Op. Clean Sweep.

As for the TC, I suggest dropping ammo packs on the floor where you'll prone. Then you can heal as you're getting hit.

EDIT: lol, ammo packs ^ My noob days.

You must take the vanilla unlock for the class before you can get the Spec-Op (2nd tier) unlock for the same class.  Vanilla unlocks work in Spec-Op and all unlocks work in vanilla.

As for kit, it depends on how you like to play.  Im a ground pounder so I took mainly assault and Spec-Op classes for my first unlocks.  Most people I know take the Anti-Tank DAO-12 or the Spec-Op G36C.  The G3 assault unlock has super stopping power but limited ammo.  Pilots like the sniper unlock so they can TK the nubs who take "their" j10.  The engineer unlock is a close-quarter weapon.  The medic unlock (L) is quite a good multi-role weapon and finally, support has the PKM which, in the right hands, it pretty wicked.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone, but I don't understand how the unlock system works. Do I need to unlock BF2 weapons to unlock Special Forces Expansion weapons?

Yeah, you're gonna need to unlock them in the order. So you'll need the ones in vanilla BF2 unlocked first.

yes, as someone already said you get 2 tiers of weapons unlocks. the first tier was the original set of unlocks like the G36 and the SA80 (alternate name for the L85A1) they were the only unlocks the game had. then special forces came out and created a second teir of unlocks which you needed to have the first unlock for that kit to get,
i.e. medic. tier 1 = L85A1 tier 2 = G36E
support tier 1 = PKM tier 2 = MG36 (not as good as the PKM though)
spec ops tier 1 = G36C tier 2 = scar_L.
etc...
you need the first unlock of that kit to be able to unlock the tier 2 one for the same kit.

From my understanding, once you play a single round in SF2 with your account, you can unlock SF weapons.  Then, you unlock two weapons per designated weapon unlock rank up.  You do not need to unlock all BF2 weapons to get SF weapons, but you do need to unlock the BF2 weapon for a specific kit to get that kit's SF weapon.
EX:  The only unlocked weapon you have is the Medic BF2 unlock weapon L85A1, and one available weapon unlock.  You are able to unlock the SF medic weapon G36E, or the any of the regular BF2 weapons for any of the other kits, but you can not unlock the SF weapon for any of the kits except the medic.

Edit:  ^ ^ Posted at same time minus negligible difference

AK101 and M16 are all a medic needs, a medic is essentially the most powerful offensive force on the battlefield, but best when backed by a support and assault

believe me, ability to heal yourself and ability to change kits gives you all the ammo you need
