I personally wouldn't have gone as far as killing the guy, because hey, I don't like prison just as much as the next guy, but he had that one and more coming.  I hope they dragged it out for a while.  I have no respect for any guy that so much as raises a hand to a woman, and if I had a gun or any other kind of weapon and something like that was happening, I think it would be instinct to use it.

Kudos for calling the cops, and not passing it off as "someone else's problem".  Could have saved her life.

being as in arizona you can carry a weapon with you... i would pull out my .357 magnum and put the douche under citizen's arrest till the cops arrive

this guy sounds likes a weak asshole of which I have no respect for. On that same token, I have zero respect for a weak woman who continues to put herself in a situation like that.  Although I dont know the story, obviously, I have little pity for a person who allows themselves to contstantly be put in that position and domestic violence is usually never a first time offence.  We need to stop acting as if women are weak and inferior and they need us strong men to save the day.

I was visiting my cousins 2 years ago in Charlotte, and we decided to go rent movies. So we got there and this father was beating and yelling at this I'd say 10 year old. My father and uncle told me to go look for movies and they went and handled the situation. I think it was over candy. I've never seen anything worst then that in real life.

My father and uncle called the cops I think.

I’d say calling the cops was the right way to go.  You don’t want to get sued or go to jail.  If you thought her life was in danger, you would’ve been ok if you threw some punches in her defence.  Depending on how confidnt you are in your ability to take the guy in a fight, you may have been able to distract him to get him away from the girl.  Or like some have said, if you can carry a pistol, you could have possibly held him, but if he was nuts enough he could have taken her hostage if you introduced a weapon.  What would I have done personally?  Same thing you did.

I have never witnessed physical abuse, but I did witness a father verbally abuse his sweet little daughter in a store I worked at after she simply asked for a small toy.  As a father, I was instantly furious and went over and told him “you don’t have to scream at her for asking for a damn toy” to which he said nothing.   I was really scared for that little girl.  If he’s willing to treat her like crap with words in public, I shudder to think what he does in private when he gets angry. 

I was raised to respect women and taught that real men don’t hit women.  Anyone who beats a woman or a child should receive the same treatment by a man equal their size.

Honestly, some really good answers here, seems the consensus has spoken and calling the cop was the way to go. Glad you guys took it seriously and didn't dick around (i feel a derailment coming on now).

9 times out of 10 you get involved and the chick defends her aggressor. I have been in exactly the same predicament and situation as you. Its best just to call 'Po 50.

There wasa similar incident just outside my house, I was randomly looking out the window when this guy walks past with his girlfriend. All of sudden he full on grabs her arm, throws her around and the pushs her to the ground quite violently where she landed on my neighbours driveway. Seriously these people are fucked up.

Domestic disputes are hard to gauge when you are witnessing it right in front of you. . .

Best thing is call the cops and let them deal with it (thats what they get paid to do)! Sticking your nose in other peoples business is never a wise endeavor. . . You never know, that guy could have been an MMA fighter, and you being the good smaritan could have gotten your ass beat lol!!

You did the right thing.  As a red-bander, I can tell everyone here that the "I woulda beat the f' outta the guy, blah, blah" nonsense is nothing but hot air.  Even if you're right, in this day and age, you will go to jail.  +1
