Ok, so I just bought and assembled (for the first time) a new computer and while it has been running pretty well most of the time, there have been a few problems I wanted to get checked out.  The first problem was that while playing BF2 one night (only on medium settings) my entire PC froze and I had to turn it off manually.  Afterwards, it wouldn't turn back on, so I turned off the power supply and then it worked just fine.  Then, last night, again while playing some BF2, the application closes without any warning.  I thought that I was pretty meticulous in putting together the new rig, but I'm starting to have doubts.

Here are my new specs:
Case: Antec P180
Motherboard: ASUS P5N32-E SLI
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4 GHz
PSU: OCZ Stealth X Stream 600 W
GPU:  eVGA 8800 GTS 320 MB
RAM:  2 GB Corsair XMS2 PC 6400

I kind of thought that it might be an overheating issue, but I'm not really sure.  When my computer is at idle or just being used to view the internet, the fans are at medium settings.  I turn them on high when I play games.  Any thoughts in resolving this issue would be much appreciated.

P.S.  If I need to post a pic of the inside of the case I can do so.

Do you have Vista and what anti-virus do you use?

Edit: You know you can use full graphic settings with an 8800?

I'm using XP, not Vista and I use AVG anti-virus.  And I know I can run the game on higher settings, but I was concerned that putting a higher strain on the GPU would cause more of these problems to happen.  I wanted to get all the bugs out of the new system before putting anymore strain on it.

@scottomus0, I'll take a picture and upload it sometime today.

Turn off AVG before you start BF2 up and then see if you still get it. I used to get problems like that and it was caused by my anti-virus. Just try it and see.

It should be a walk in the park for that GPU. No strain whatsoever.

Get SPEEDFAN and check your temps while on load and while on idle.

AVG should be no problem, only AVs like Norton would cause problems.

Check your memory - run memtest86 from a bootable CD.

Seriously? NOD32? I find it the most un-interruptive AV program available. It's amazing.

It is good, but it kept making it freeze, its much more persistent on 2142 though.
