G5 ver. 2 has a second button and a very nice non-slip surface.

Damn, I just got version 1 for Christmas. Newegg doesn't seem to have version 2 yet according to the reviews.

If you look further down the list of the Logitech mouses, they still have version 1, which means version 2 is probably supposed to be a deluxe version rather than the new standard.

all the shops around here only sell ver. 2 (maybe because logitech is a swiss company?). Seeing as they only sell it as a "G5" and not with a name to suggest its an upgraded version, I think they will phase out ver. 1 slowly.

www.overclockers.co.uk sell them at a very good price. It shows it as the 1st G5 but its actually the second edition.

The other version of the G5 is a "2007" edition and the only extra is the side button.
