Over the last 60 years, there has obviously been a lot of turmoil regarding relations between Israelites and Palestinians.  Blame has been thrown to both sides in copious amounts.  Sadly, the closest we ever came to peace in the region was shattered by the murder of Yitzhak Rabin by a nutjob Zionist.

So...  in the interest of attaining peace once more, maybe we should try a totally new approach.  Why not offer open immigration to America and jobs to all Palestinians?  We could set up a predominantly Palestinian community in some slice of Wyoming where there would be no reason for conflict, and they'd enjoy the beautiful scenery there.

I know these people want their land, but I have a feeling that a large portion of them really just want a better life.  When you look at how poor and desperate most of them are, I would assume that most of them would put their hate behind them if they had a major increase in their standard of living.

What do you guys think?

I think the only ones who would take us up on the offer would be the ones with ulterior motives.

They don't want to live in Wyoming, they just want to have their own country in Palestine.  You could suggest to move all the Israelis to NYC and it wouldn't be fair either.

As an Irishman I can tell you that that suggestion would be regarded as a terrible insult to even the most moderate of Palestinians. The desire for justice transcends such things as well-being, believe it or not. Seriously - you wouldn't understand it unless you lived it. The solution is impractical anyway and there is one massive flaw: do you suggest moving the third holiest shrine in Islam there also?

I guess as an outsider, I just find it insane that people would value land over livelihood.  What should hold more worth to them is how well they live.  I would much rather live in a place where I live a more comfortable life than in a place that holds some connection to my culture.

I guess this is just one of those things that a secular Westerner like myself will never understand.

Good points...  but I guess you're right.  But seriously, I never understood the whole Northern Ireland thing either.  I've studied some of the history behind it, but I still find myself relating better to the Irish that left for America than the Irish that stayed back and fought.

With the world being as big as it is, we should never have to fight for land.  There is more than enough for all of us.

I totally agree with you, but they have another culture and different viewpoints than you and me.

Meaning most of them have no desire to leave their land, and the very few who would leave would quite possibly be the people who don't like us and want to come here to cause problems.

Fair enough.  A lot of the reason why I even started this thread is that I saw "Paradise Now" a little while ago.  It was an excellent movie, and it seemed to suggest that a lot of Palestinians aren't that different from you and me.  A lot of them seem less concerned about land and more concerned about bettering their lives.  The general point of the movie seemed to suggest that most extremism results from desperation and a warped sense of honor.

Eliminating the honor part is difficult, but removing the desperation is purely economic.

I honestly can't think of any solution, there's always gonna be conflict between the two, you can't move one without moving the other, because then the one moved has nowhere to go, and there are always gonna be people on both sides who want to destroy the other. I still think we should build them and island just off the coast, like the did in Dubai only bigger. It might not be their old land, but I seriously doubt they're gonna get it back now.

Aside from the points Cam has made regarding why they would have a problem with that idea..
The way they choose to behave when they are given the chance to self govern is is just one of the reasons I would not want them on our borders. Take a look at what has happened in Lebanon when they were offered refuge. Welcome to the new Wyoming

Not to mention the logistical nightmare of relocating 9 million people.

Yeah...  Good points...  Man, sometimes, I wonder if they would be better off dead.
