Basically Muammar Gaddafi wants to see a unified Africa.  He reckons African nations can't compete globally on their own.  He receieved mix reactions.

If Africa were to be united, how do you think the world would be?  Implications for politics?  Religion?  What would this mean for the middle east, in particular middle eastern African states? (eg. Libya, Egypt etc).

I guess it would be worth a shot, but I think there are too many cultural differences in Africa for them to all get along as one nation.  They'd be united only in name.

This would make the united africa an economic and military power house. Plus they would be able to divert resources form richer nations into poorer nations and make africa better as a whole. The middle eastern africa would be unwilling to cooperate and most likley try to join and arab or middle eastern coalition for fear of the new african threat. This action would make trade with africa eaiser and not have to worry about sumgglers or stuff as seen in "blood diamond" in about 10-15 years after unification. Overall unification would be better for africa, but it might be harmful to private sectors, and its neighbors.

Africa is too culturally diverse and too poorly governed (i.e. unstable) to have any real chance of being unified, let alone sustaining this unification.

Havok is right.

It'll never happen in any lifetime we're affiliated with.

I should say, for the purposes of speculation...

...asuming all immediate, and realistic barriers to unification, are overcome...
