Just curious, how do you guys feel about money.  I'd make a pole but I prefer more comprehensive answers.

-do you spend it as soon as you make it because you cant take it with you?

-do you horde it because you live in constant fear of a rainy day?

-are you preparing/prepared for retirement?

-do you treat money earned differently than money given?

-do you treat the market like a casino or like your future depends on it?

yes. i work for my money, and i generally tend to not spend it all as soon as i get it. i save up and rationalize what i can afford and not afford to buy, or what i need and what i want.

but isnt that what most people do anyway?

I spend it as soon as I make it because of my lifestyle - Single male living alone with no dependants.

My savings are minimal.

I have to put away a mandatory 5 1/2  %  of my gross pay into my retirement fund plus my employer makes a percentage contribution.

The only way I come accross money is by earning it.

My retirement funds are not dependant on the market and I currently have no other investents in the Stock market.

i would have been much happier when i could have just set off and made a life for myself.
now, you need to do something that everyone accepts as a job to get money as the only way of life.
i suppose that has always been the case, but money is fucking evil, and for some reason it seems some parts of history offered times that werent so focused on it.

you're the one who enjoys making knives?  it's too bad most passions cant pay the bills.  And even if they do, people still look down on you because you dont conform to the suit and tie, live to work bullshit.

Me and my girl are scouting for a house so I've increased my saving rate a bit to make the impending (and inevitable) loan a bit smaller.
But basically I'm a good saver and have serious buyers remorse whenever I buy something that I don't really "need". (Plasma-TV and so on)
After a few days I enjoy my purchase and have no regrets at all but when I walk out the store I can't help think "Damn... Did I really need that?"

Funny thing is, I'm a lot more "concerned" about money and saving than my girl and she's an economist.

The Ugly says: "if you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?" and I pretty much agree with this as a way of life. Of course, that is directly related to the amount of money I earn, which is not much...

So earning just a few means I can't spend it all for fear I might need it sometime, can't save enough, because one has expenses... It's just fucked up. Money pretty much rules my life atm. And from the looks of things, its not going to change...
