once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

E6600 -- $221

You could get a new mobo + a the E6600 for that price...
He'd need new RAM too.

Unless he got an ASRock VSTA board.

Will the 1000 mhz difference in the FSB make that much of a difference between the two chips? Just curious for my own knowledge.

Honestly, no. Each can overclock each other, although the Opteron does have an overclocking advantage. They were built to be overclocked!

That's not strictly true. The Opteron was built to be very stable and reliable. They are server CPUs, you don't OC servers, that's just asking for trouble. But all that stability makes Opterons naturally good OCers. So it amounts to the same thing.

the opty's came out of the factory downclocked to be precise and the rest of what Bertster said is absolutly correct, opty's are fantastic value for money they overclock brilliantly, stable, reliable what more could a pc builder want!

I have a AV8 Deluxe Board which support the ddr RAM, not the new one ddr2 which I would have to get if I were to get new board.
