Heh,
I would recommend a tablet PC from gateway. The ability to write notes on the screen and some of the productivity stuff (goBinder or OneNote) are so good I don't actually believe its a microsoft product.
Mine has
DVD drive
Single core 2.4 ghz processor
3 usb slots
onboard graphics - I would have had to spend $800 more for a different gfx card.
SD slot
Headphones and mic slot
wifi integrated.
1gb ram
Pros -
*Fucking thing never crashes. I think the tablet xp OS is the most stable there is. I even use my laptop as a rendering node for 3d stuff.
*Solid construction, battery can last me all day in meetings WHILE writing on screen, writing documents, surfing the web.
*I play lots of simulation games (688I, Fleet Command) and Star Wars empire at War on it when im sitting around @ work. They run fine. wouldnt recommend BF2 tho. Also runs the 3d and design software I use (chief architect, sketchup, 3ds max).
*You look cool when you turn the screen 180 (or flat) to show someone something. Keeps rabid mac fanboys @ bay.
*Have not had any problems to speak of, other than me dropping it out of my car onto pavement. And the ole boy still runs fine.
Cons
*Windoze OS, most security challenged os around.
*Not as powerful as the C2d laptops. All though they may make them with those now.
*Its cool and thusly more susceptible to theft
I got mine in october of last year, so im sure the models they have will be different. Also, mine was $800. Refurbished. And thats why the gFX card would have been so expensive. They only offered them on new systems then. The new ones were about $1600 and didnt seem all that different.
And lastly, if not that, then a macbook. Because they are simple and easy to use Vs other laptops ive used or had to troubleshoot.
And THAT is my 2c
