Hamrlik is an above average defenseman, fyi.

So far the winners have been the Rangers, Avs, Ducks, Kings, and Flyers.

The losers: Sabres, Devils, Wings, Isles.

They lost Schneider, Bertuzzi, Lang, and Calder...picked up Rafalski...and have yet to sign Hasek.

Losing Schneider was big, but getting Rafalski was bigger.  Rafalski plays the same type of game Schneider does but has better offensive output.  He and Lidstrom quarterbacking the PP should be pretty scary.

Losing Lang and Calder isn't that big of a deal, but it definitely takes away a lot of their depth.  Both of those guys are more than capable of putting the puck in the net and losing both of them won't help.

Losing Bertuzzi will hurt.  When he's healthy, he's a bastard to play against.  Big, skilled, and with a mean streak...he'll be hard to replace.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Wings pick up a big name forward.  If they don't, they'll definitely trade for one come January/February.

Well, as if this is a surprise...

The usual spenders are the ones buying the big name free agents, while teams like the Oilers are once again falling behind. I remember Gary Bettman crowing about the Oilers' success just a few months ago...
