I have to read them again. I seem to have forgotten them really easily. I keep getting them mixed up with Garth Nixs' lot which I read a while ago as well.

Now the best books I have read, but one of the best certainly.

But to be honest, I can't see that tiny girl having a relationship with that kid ( see? names have completely left me ).
When you see what they interpret Lyra as being, it's really quite interesting. I would never have thought of her as that.

My wife is also excited. Her best friend Johnny and her have read the books and are going crazy. I personally don't see what's so great about it, but I'm sure I'll be forced to sit there and watch it. I may take a liking to them, as I like Harry Potter now that I've watched the movies.

Yeah i like the books better than harry potter, im hoping New Line cinema can pull this off though.

They better do a fucking good job. I actually wondered why they didn't make His Dark Materials into a movie sooner. I hope they don't make it Harry Potter-esque, taking the decent bits out of the story so it makes next to no sense.
Northern Lights
The Subtle Knife
The Amber Spyglass
Three of my favourite books of all time, depressing ending though.

Hmm, looks like it's got a pretty good cast. Daniel Craig as Asriel? Didn't see that one, I'm sure he'll do a good job though.
Just thinking about it, I think this film is going to cause a real stink with the religious sector.
I see signs that it will not stand up to the books at all. Calling it "The Golden Compass" suggests a younger audience than if it was called "Northern Lights". I'm not too optimistic about this, but I'll see it nonetheless.
They should have got Peter Jackson to direct, he's good at trilogy adaptations. Too bad New Line Cinema hates him now.

I thought that as well. "The Golden Compass" sounds very childish, when these books are not childish at all.

Read northen lights in 2 days... 2 days ago, love reading. Read very fast which annoys me as books end too quick, even though i take it all in.

They better make a good job of the film, the last one and maybe the second should be maybe 15's as missing fingers, lrya and will together and all the sadness.

epic books. Definetely one of my few favorites. But the movies are going to fail. It's simple:

Book: portrays christianity (although not explicitly mentioned as such) as evil.
Film: will not be able to get away with any of the books underlying concepts and ideas.

Never thought of it like that actually. And if they don't manage to convey the emotion contained in the books, it will also, fail.

However, with PJ at the helm, i look forward to a good production.

well i think the one with the two polar bears fighting will definately not be a kiddies movie seeing as how it ends with one of them ripping out and eating the others heart. should make a good set of films though if done right, got to read the series again.

I couldnt keep track of lord of the rings, i didnt like it. read all 3, but i guess i was only 13 or so, might try again one time, the hobbit was good though.

yeah christaity is made out to be evil (which it is really) in the books, so yeah, like whoever said that above me, the films might not get away with it. But then again. the films will be cool anyway, i can just tell.

O also, if you like Pullman, have a look at The Ruby In The Smoke, Tiger In The Well and the rest in that series. Another fantastic set of books.

Yeah read all them too.

The wind on fire series by William Nicholson are almost as good as Northen lights etc.
