Ever since I got SF I've had some one consistant graphic problem.  Lets say youre sitting atop a tank and firing the 50cal gun (or whatever it is). Normally the surrounding textures might reflect some light, but in my game the textures blink black.  This can happen with huge areas like an entire landscape.  This is a real problem because if there's a lot of gunfire around then I can't see people hiding in corners and such.  This happens quite a bit in Ghost town and Surge.  Now its even happening in the original BF2 levels.

Ive done all the obvious stuff like a reinstall, driver update, etc.  My 9800 PRO is at factory settings and speeds. Fast writes are on and its at 4x AGP.  My graphic settings are at medium with low terrain.  I've tried shutting off dynamic lighting and other features but this keeps happening.  Any suggestions?

Thanks. I searched "black textures" and read that last night.  I've seen the checkerboard problem when I slightly overclocked my video ram once, but this is very different.  I mean, its concievable that its just a bad card, but I haven't been able to reproduce it in other games or futuremark's benchmark app.

Heat's not an issue either.  I'm doing pretty well in the cooling department.  I remember this starting up when I was changing graphic settings beause SF is more resource intensive than just the plain jane BF2.  I thought it was the shader pre-rendering thing it does and deleted those files from my documents> blah blah and re-rendered them with the same results, if not worse results.

Kinda stumped right now.  I havent tried underclocking the card, but I really shouldnt have to do that.  Its at factory.

Considering I cant find anything on the net about this, it may be a dying card or perhaps some trivial issue ATI or EA may address in the future. What bugs me is even with shadows and lighting set to none, it still does this!

Hmm..I had the same problem with my X800XT PE. It is not the OC:ing that is causing those weird shader effects. It is the game and it's weird graphics calculations. It somehow goes grazy on maths if you change graphics parameters (resolution, full window or not etc..).
Seems like it does not "empty" the old values, just calculating more and more...

I could't resolve this problem without reinstalling the game. After that everything worked again..

Yeah, I did a reinstall the other day and got a minor performance boost but the black blinking is still there. Dunno, maybe when it gets real bad I'll reinstall and make sure to delete my saved data.  I didnt delete my profile.

Did you delete your profile and stuff when you reinstalled?

Yes. All data (Dice and EA..)

But...I made a copy of the profile 1st. There are some files that I don't want to do again and again. Like button conffigs
