I was just reading this article on Wikipedia:

What do you mean by reclassified? When was there a US empire?

Hardly. The only 'imperial possessions' of the US are useless little islands in the middle of the pacific. An economic empire perhaps but the US is not an empire in the traditional sense.

Little islands are no use to anyone. Except for sweatshop labour, then you can still put made in the US or made in the UK on the labels (something I think Nike and Gap do a fair bit of).

Making Empires is easy. You've just got to turn up with a flag. That's how the British did it. Go to some uncivilised country stick a flag in the ground and claim it's yours. Easy.
