Sorry, but is this a huge joke or something?
Short Reason for this post: Seeing as America/Americans get criticized daily for their beliefs/policies/etc., I guess it's only fair to let Americans criticize foreign nations.
Like San4 and Bertster pointed out, it's privately funded; if your government was building it for them, I'd totally understand this whole situation, but it's not. It seems as if the petition creator fails to recognize this, seeing as he/she wants to allocate the 100 million pounds to the NHS (No clue what that is), despite the fact the government has no reason nor justification to spend peoples' own money. I can't see why you guys are complaining, when:
Wembleystadium.com wrote:
The entire Wembley Stadium project will cost £757 million
. That's right, 7.5x more for a Soccer (Football to you) stadium.
I'm no fan of religion myself, but this is absolutely ridiculous.
Plus, xenophobia much? All of you seem to be afraid that this mosque is going to be nothing but trouble; before it was even built! You're generalizing that all Muslims are terrorists in that post of yours, completely overlooking the moderate Muslims. It's true that the radical bunch have a louder voice, but another factor in the small part the moderate plays is all the attention given to the radical and not to the moderate. You're completely ignoring the fact that Al Queada (sp?) is denounced by many Muslims. Not all Muslims are fucking terrorists, something that some of these posters fail to recognize.
Considering the UK is a member of the UN and even one of the Big 5, I find it hard to believe that it's own citizens are pretty much restricting these peoples' right to practice their own religion, something that's outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I always thought England was a religiously tolerant place... Apparently, the general sentiment says otherwise. Like san4 says, this could be an opportunity, another way to communicate to the Muslim people. But of course, that's absurd right, because those Muslims are going to do nothing but incite terror and havok on the streets of England right?
I also fail to see how creating one very big mosque is going to change all of England, seeing that in 2001, only 3.1% of England's population is Muslim. And if you're going to go off about how it was in 2001, I'm pretty sure the population of Muslims is not going to make such a dramatic leap in numbers in only five years.
And with all the criticism the USA gets for being a bunch full of redneck-hillbilly-guntoting-racist-xenophobic-muslimhating people...
Edit: Oh yeah, with all the talk of burning down the mosque, I know you're joking, but if you did it, you'd be nothing more than terrorists yourselves.
