383 will give you a little more torque than the 318.  are you using a turqueflite 727  or a manual?

I'd skip the Turbos and just go with http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new … sler.shtml

I have an old old 727 in right now, but I have a 4 speed manual ready to go in on the eventual

Quite so. I got this awesome neoprene type stuff and vinyl (dark grey, black, blue) and new bucket seats installed and redone for $550 bucks. Turns out my neighbor does interiors

I just remembered that the 383 chrysler is a big block. you'd be better off with a 340 or 360.  A mildly built small block will give you power, reliability, and ok mileage.

Well I have a 383 B w/ aluminum Edelbrock heads and a single 4 barrel carb in my 1970 Dodge Challenger with a Kiesler 5 speed. That is a sweet street combo.

I guess It all comes down to how fast you want to go and how much you wanna dick around with maintenence alot (ie multicarb setup) or minimal as in the new EFI setup from Edel or a good ole' 4 barrel.

EDIT: Here's my (sort of) car in a couple of years, my father has owned it since new (1987), Its a holden (Aussie )  VL calais, 5.0 litre 304ci V8, Extractors, Custom S/S 2&1/4 inch catback exhaust system, Lumpy crow cam, Stage 3 shift-kited fully manulised TH-400 'box, hardened clutch plates and Pedders sportsryder suspension. As long as the Vic laws dont change i can legally drive it Its friken awesome
