At the moment i'm running on an NVidia Geforce 5400 and it struggles to run battlefield 2 on quality settings any higher than the minimum. I'm thinking of buying a new GPU and wanted to ask what standard i'll need to run smoothly on the highest settings.
It needs to be an AGP. I'm looking at the "NVIDIA GeFORCE 6600 256MB AGP" at the moment, does anybody know how this will perform if i push the quality settings?

Many thanks for advice.

Also to open up the topic a bit more, what quality settings do you all run on? What GPU do you use?

Well, the new GeForce 7800 GS AGP version is on stores...if you could pay a bit more you could play on the highest options!

I have a 6800 GT PCIe.

I honestly suggest waiting until you can upgrade to PCI-E if you can. If you cannot, I suggest the Geforce 6800. From what I have read, this is the best AGP card to be running BF2 on.

Honestly, could u bring me some more info on that? Will it be cheaper then pci-e? When will it arrive? Why AGP infront of PCI-E... Anything.

With no mention of a budget, it's difficult to give options - but since you're talking about sticking with an AGP port I'm guessing your budget is limited.

The best budget card at the moment is probably the 6600GT.  You'll get medium settings out of that, but if you've got the money, a 6800GT will allow you to max out the settings and if you have more the 7800 will kick arse.

Well the whole information I got is from a German site [computerbase.de] and it will arrive on  2. February of this year...that´s all I can tell you right now. There isn´t too much info right now but you can be sure it WILL arrive. ^^

Aww... thats quite much, newegg.com sells most of the 7800GT PCI-E for less then 300 USD. Thats a different on almost 100€, if u compare 300USD to 350€.

I have an eVGA 6600GT 128mb AGP overclocked 10%.  The game is generally smooth 1280x1024 with custom medium/high detail (high on distance viewing).  It chokes when there is a LOT of activity, dozens of players in an area, lots of stuff blowing up/shooting/flying past.

If I were to upgrade right now, 6800GS is really the only option left in AGP.  Aside from ATI
6800GT is slightly better but you can OC a GS to get almost the same performance for $100 less.  Don't hold your breath for a 7800GS AGP.. Its in Nvidia's best interest to get your cheap ass on PCI so that they can sell you 2 cards on SLI instead of just 1.

I was debating moving to 6800GS, but I think I might try to sell my rig first and just shell out for the 7800GT. 1600x1200 High gives me wood

In the U.S.A all hardware is cheaper than in Europe! Take a look at Alternate.de and you will see that the price for a 7800 GT is about 330-350€. Lucky boy you are!

Ehm...maybe 269 US Dollars?

Uhm, i live in Sweden, and the prices are even worse here... trust me. But i got some connections in US. Would there be any problem to get an "NTSC/US" GPU and use it here in Europe/Sweden? (Like powerfailure)

I am running a pentium 4 3.4 with hyperthreading and 2 yes count em 2 nvidia geforce 7800 gtxs running in SLI mode with 256mb.  I can run battlefield 2 at all the highest settings with antialiasing on at 2x but i could just run it at 4x also.  I have my view distance at 100 also.  it runs great without any problems.  If you can get at least one of these cards go for it.

Oh, ok... i have seen older GPUs with switches for NTSC and PAL. Guess they came direct from the states...

The reason i'm getting all excited (this time) is cuz i'm on a 6600GT -_- And i fear the arrive of Oblivion.

Ehr, i hate money... i cant belive 1900 have 48 pipelines.

I would recomend the ati x850xt, if your looking for the BEST agp gpu out there.

Ok, so I was looking for links, and I was wrong.  This looks like the best bang for your buck.

Alternatively, for battlefield's sake, only one 7800GTX can max out all the settings as I have mine on. Perhaps for other things you may need two in SLI, but for battlefield you dont.

I've got a 6200 PCI-e 256mb card overclocked a little bit and run everything at medium settings with AA at 2x.  I had it running on smaller maps set higher with 4x AA but I generally stick to the bigger maps most of the time.  I'm happy with it.  Of course it could always be better, but I'm not gonna complain though since I got the card for $60 new at a local shop.

Ha ha! ATI pwns you.

It was my very first Video Card (9200) and my most recent card (x800).

I don't think I'd ever switch to nVidia despite the new sexy 7800GT.

I'm saving up for the ATI x1800. Only $200 more to go.

I suggest a BFGtech 6800 GT OC w/ 256.  I love the one I have.  With newer cards on the way the price is right too.

Yeah my next PC will prolly have a 6800GT PCX card in it. (No point in buying a new rig with a 6600GT, when for just a lil bit more i can get a MUCH better vidoe card.) Wont be able to afford a 7800 (of any sort) for a while yet.
In your case buy a 6800 AGP (PCX would be better tho)
