This is beyond funny now!

Really weird problem for you all to sink your teeth into this time:

My dvd drive sometimes works. When I turn on my computer this pre-windows 'thing' scans for drives. It shows my dvd drive and continues to boot windows.

Sometimes it's fine and it works. But 9 time out of 10 it doesn't show in my computer or device manager, or when I scan for new hardware.

I've check the boot priority  - floppy, the dvd drive, hard drive.

Anything that jumps out that is obviously wrong or an obvious fix?

Thank you

Do you have a secondary CD/DVD drive?

Shouldn't the hard drive have priority over the floppy, and then the DVD drive?

I've set the jumpers to have it as master yes.

I've also tried it on cable select which made no difference.

No, otherwise you can't start from cd-rom

If you have only one drive connect it to the end of the ide cable and set to master. If you have 2 the one connected to the middle connector should be slave and the one connected to the end connector set to master
