Fan not Working

Hey guys, my new PC just came and I have an NZXT THermal Display (http://www.nzxt.com/products/sentry_1/) and it's supposed to control the Fan that cools my E6600, but it doesn't work when I switch the fan speed from Low to High...actually the fan isn't even moving.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium and I cannot for the life of me find the damned thing on it, like how to adjust the fan and what not.

Help?

Actually none of the 3 fans are working.

Are you sure you've plugged everything in correctly and set the unit up to the power supply?

I tried following the wiring, but I lost it behind the hard drives.

Sounds like they aren't plugged in. Most fans run directly off the power supplied by the power supply. If they connect directly into the motherboard, you may need to activate something in the BIOS but I've never heard of anything like that. Most likely they connect to a power cord that should connect to the poser supply itself. However some cords that come off the power supply are merely extensions and may not be connected to anything on the other end.

I suggest tracing the route of the power cords on the fan and verify whether or not they are actually connected to the motherboard or power supply correctly.

That is what the fan should have for a connector, look and see if you see 3 of those dangling around somewhere. Or, look to see if you can find the spot where they arent plugged in on the mobo (3 pins sticking out)

I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to plug them into the mobo, they go directly into the controller, the controller gets the power for the fans from the PSU. Correct me if I'm wrong.

On my mobo, (ASUS A8NSLI Deluxe) There is a set of 2 '3-pin' connectors for dynamic speed fans (fans controlled by the mobo I.E. spin faster when your board is hotter)

But the whole point of this thread is that he's got a fan controller that does this for him instead of the mobo, and it doesn't work.

I'm on my new computer right now, and it's idling at 41 C (well, not idling...downloading patch 1.41) and my fans wires are Red Yellow and Black.

mmm if the fan that cools your processor is on a heat sink and it's from intel.. it'll probably have 4 pins and that goes in the slot on the motherboard usually just above the processor.

The other fans, that's odd.. the LED display lights up right?

Yes, but it has the wrong date/time/doesn't control anything when I press the button that controls the fan speeds.

Fans don't always necessarily use a 3-pin connection. My 120mm Antec fans use a molex connection..
