First off, I posted this in D&ST because I want serious answers. Sometime the JD is just too crazy.

I need some suggestions from you good bunch.
I want an 8800GTS 320MB. I can buy one for $300 Canadian off of some site.

Now, my parents say no because they want me to save up for a car. Their theory is because I don't have a steady income, since I can't find a good job out there, that I shouldn't be blowing my money on gaming shit.

Now I agree with that statement, and it makes sense, but I really want to put my money into this. I have over $400 now in my bank account, and want to put it towards this, but I can't persuade my parents into letting me.

Any good things I could say to get them to let me buy it?

Besides $300 is almost nothing towards a car, can't see you getting out of that unless you get a job.

Cars are expensive to run. If you don't have a job your parents will have to chip in.

But if I were you I'd buy a car.

I did earn 30 bucks for pulling these old plants of out my old neighbors flower bed. Took me 2 hours, damn roots were so long, but still. I have over $110 in my wallet alone. I really want this card, but I also want a car,

Tell them you are gay and that gaming keeps your mind off boy ass.

You parents are right, quit spending all your time gaming when you should be working and living life.  Grow up, take responsibility for yourself.

Pretty much what he said.  I would just say that the difference in 2 cars that are only $300 apart in price is really small and it won't really affect what kind of car you get.

I guess I'll just wait and see how well I can run Crysis with my DX9 card. The only reason why I want this card is because it's DX10.
I'll have to settle with DX9.

Yeah man. With a car, you can pick up your girlfriend, take her out and show her the world. With a car, you can go to your job that you will have someday. With a car, you can go buy yourself something when you want it.

With an 8800 you can have a little bit of fun in the computer world, but really, once you get your job and your girlfriend your not gunna wanna waste so much time gaming, your gunna wanna party with friends and stuff. (Your 8800 isn't gunna drive you to that party!)

you have 400 dollars saved for a car... and you want to spend 300 on a graphics card.

Are you planning on driving a moped?

lol no. I have $400 so far. I would have more, but I bought a drumset a while back
I'm not planning on buying a $400 car

Hell, even mopeds are $1000 sometimes.

Once you get a car you can get a job. Then you can afford a nice video card upgrade every few months.

I'll need a job before I can buy a car.

Job -> Moniez -> Car -> More working -> 8800GTS

how old are you? And seriously dont waste your money on a video card. You will probly grow up soon and not even be able to spend much time on the computer, especially if you find a job.

15, and yeah, you're right. I'll buy it once my 7900 is considered 'ancient'. Because right now, it's holding up strong. 80FPS in BF2 is great imo.

I wonder how much of a price drop will happen when the 8950 goes into the market. Maybe the 8800GTS will drop to $250

The 8800GTS will be obsolete in a few yea - hey look the 52300GTXMSLOLWTFPWN.

Car and the possibilities that come with one > 20 extra FPS in a computer game that'll also be obsolete in 2 days.

Well, how much can you buy a car for?  Thats the important question.  Do some research, if you can't find a car that is within your price range, then buy the video card, because you'll not have the money for the car anyway.  If you can find one that you can afford soon, save up for it.

I don't think 400 could pay for a decent portion of a car, unless your getting an ancient thing out of the 70's.. but then again, what do i know about cars
