Hey I'm looking to overclock my FX-55 and I need some tips. I have the AI Booster software that came with my motherboard (ASUS A8N-SLI Premium). Is this any good? I just need some tips because I am a complete noob at overclocking. thanks
check this guide. Its for a DFI mobo but the same principles still apply. Don't do it though software, BIOS FTW
EDIT: just realized that you have an FX chip. Ramp up the multiplier until the PC is unstable, then increase the voltages a bit, then increase the multi, .... Just check that your temps stay lowish during prime95 (use to check for stability) runs

maybe something I should add: before you start overclocking make sure you know how to reset the BIOS. If you OC too quickly you will have an unbootable PC.

Take the mobo battery out.
yes there is a cmos jumper to clear teh settigns. i have the a8n-sli premium also, but with teh fx-57.ceslayer23 wrote:

overclocking an amd fx-55 is like gluing a 13th cylinder onto a V-12 ferrari motor. it's more bothersome than anything.

hey guys I got my fx-55 up to 2.8GHz (stock is 2.6) and I'm not exactly satisfied. Whenever I try to raise the CPU multiplier to 15 it crashes. Could I get it higher if I raised the CPU voltages? It's running at 1.536v right now, if I raised it could I then raise the multiplier higher or would I wreck my proc? Here's a SS of it
your probably gonna need more V to reach 3.0 GHz. Try setting 190 FSB x 15 multi (2.85GHz), and then increasing to 193 HTT x 15 multi (2.9GHz), then to 197 FSB x 15 multi (2.95 GHz).
As already posted FX-55s don't really OC all that well
Temps aren't looking all that good. Seems like its time to get a better cooler/spring cleaning inside the PC

i cant get my FSB any lower than 200 either in the BIOS or the Ai Booster program, is there any way i could get it to 3GHz without lowering the FSB? and is there a certain voltage that I shouldnt go past?
if you wanna OC without touching the FSB multi [I R liek retard], just follow the guide I posted. 1.55-1.6V seems to be the border with good air cooling. As long as your load temps are below 50-55°C your OK, anything up to 65°C is still tolerable but will decrease the CPU lifetime
