Save up for a good few weeks before you do some upgrading, otherwise you will just have an overkill on certain components compared to others.

Don't even bother "upgrading" a Gateway. It's not worth it, just buy a new system when you can.

Not really much point upgrading...if u upgrade one component, the others wont be able to keep up.

If you're going to upgrade something, I would add another gig of RAM.

I don't know anything about ATI cards, but I had a P4 2.4ghz cpu with a 6800XT (128mb) and it ran BF2 fairly smoothly on low settings (with only 1 gig of ram). That card (AGP) is selling for about $120 at newegg.com. I wouldn't get it though, too much money to put into an old system and maybe not much improvement. RAM is a better choice.

You are probably going to have to pay a bundle when do an upgrade because you'll need a new PSU, mobo, cpu, ram, and a pci-e video card. I did the whole thing for about $850 (including a C2D E6600 and an 8800GTS). It's not cheap but everything is so different from when your system was originally built that it's hard to upgrade it piece by piece at this point.

Add another gig of ram.
Get a better video card.

Other than that, there's not a lot you can do without spending a bucket full of money.
