Okay, I wanna upgrade my computer because BF2 lags my system silly. I get an average of 30FPS with everything set on "low" and intermittant screen freezes. So - I'll post my system specs and if you'd be so kind as to suggest how I can improve it

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2200+,  MMX,  3DNow, ~1.8GHz
Memory: 1024MB RAM
Card name: RADEON X800 PRO

Anything else you need I'll post on request.

CPU's a bitch.

Graphics card isn't awful but could be better.

RAM isn't too bad, but 2GB is obviously better.

How much have you got to spend?

Whats the Mobo?

Download this http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-140.zip and you should be able to find it under 'Mainboard'.

This is pretty much what I'd have gone for, + fat cooler (Asus motherboards OC better though). + quicker RAM from a less up it's own arse brand.

How can a C2D E2140 and GF 8600 top of line, compared to E6700 and 8800GTX/Ultra. You see the difference, eh?

I bet when someone say C2D and 8-series, you just go think, WOW, that's gonna cost shit loads of money.

yeah, listen to this man! I´d say, just like Pessimist, go for a ASUS motherboard, but all in all the above mentioned system is pretty okay!

Thanks for taking the time to add all that shit up. Can you suggest a processor which won't require overclocking though? Because I'll probably end up burning down my house.

lt.jpsmith wrote:

Card name: RADEON X800 PRO
     Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip type: RADEON X800 PRO AGP (0x4A49)
         DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz)
       Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4A49&SUBSYS_00021002&REV_00
   Display Memory: 256.0 MB

To be honest guys I don't want to be arseing around overclocking my CPU, so if you can suggest some processors which won't require overclocking.

Id recommend the 4mb cache e6600 its clocked at 2.4ghz so you wont need an overclock and its fast. Im not sure if you were implying to overclocking to the videocard unlock but its not an overclock its unlock from x800 pro to x800xt.

For a C2D than does not require overclocking you are probably looking at the E6600 2.4Ghz but that's just under £150. Intel reduce their prices on the C2D's on 22nd July so it should get cheaper after that but may take some weeks for the cuts to filter down.

Overclocking these processor's is not hard to do but if you are unsure it's probably best not to.
