...after 22/7 that is. That's pretty much what it's going to look like, but figured you guys might be interested and I'd like some comments on my choices for the spec/what you'd change. I won't necessarily listen, but I want to know all the same. Vid card is a stop gap till I can afford a 8800.

Monitor: Amazing!
Mouse: Amazing!
Hard Drive: Slightly small..
CPU: Great! Overclock it to 2.7GHz or so heh.
Motherboard: Strange choice, any particular reason?
Case: I like it and might get one myself!
PSU: Yah man!
CPU Cooler: Nice choice!
RAM: Eugh.. get DDR2-800 not DDR2-667!
DVDRW: Nice choice, SATA
Video: Get one made by Asus or something and not by OCUK.

Edit: I assume you will upgrade to DX10 later? Also, no sound card?

I think (THINK) that you could get some extra performance from a lower-end cpu but a higher end GPU. remember, C2Ds overclock like persians, unlike video cards.

I think half of the new builds in the last couple months have the antec 900 case. It is T3h PWN!

All very nice aside from the Graphics card, I understand your going for the 7600GT(ssame as me )  but for the card your getting the price is silly, my Xfx7600GT is exactly the same but a fair bit cheaper(cost me $90 US) and gives the same performence.  Should shop around a bit IMO.

That and im a bit partial to CRTs, dont like LCDS

In the UK, it is more expensive. Also - LCD > CRT.

It would be 44 pounds if I did the conversions correctly, so therefore, same performence, better brand, better price.  No comment on moniters.

Really depends if he can find it for the same price in UK, and cost of shipping.

RAM looks a bit of a downer, do what Leet said and go for the 800.

After the price drop (you know about it obviously) you might find that the E6600 is a better alternative, for only a bit more.

r2zoo must remember that US and UK prices are NEVER the same!

Nothing wrong with Crucial and great RMA from OCUK aswell.

I hate crucial. Don't get them, get G.skill or something.

No, I don't think you understand.. it doesn't matter about the conversions. It can be £44 converted, but the UK prices are actually higher. I mean, a E6850 is $266 but over here it is £190 (After price drops).

Not really much use, now that the E6420 is out - only the clock speed is different, and only by 400Mhz!

Persians?

Anyway, don't get the 7600gt, you'll be disappointed by the performance. Get a 7900gt or higher.

Well, I misunderstood what you said the first time, I still hold that he should shop around, buying all from one place is convient but not cost effective.

Bah 7600GT is great for its price point, can run BF2 on all high quite easily with FPS in the 50s-60s(at least for me)

I don't understand why you'd buy everything and waste 64 pounds on a 7600 gt that could be put towards an 8800 series card.

Can't you just save up a little longeR?

Yeah, thing is cause I'm ordering from the UK I get ripped off on shipping, so it has to all be from the same place. I'm getting the brandless video card cause it's good value for money, basically. The only other gaming cards I can get for that little are x1650 Pro's, but they are only comparable to the 7600GS's. HDD is small, I may get another at some point when it runs out, the AAJS models are also really fast. Ram is excellent, it's cheap and uses D9GMH IC's, so it's a great overclocker, and I won't have any trouble OC'ing it far. Remember, at a 1:1 ratio, I need a 333FSB just to run it at it's stock speeds, so I think it'll be fine. It's the same as their PC8500 stuff, just clocked lower.

And the multiplier is x8 instead of x9, but thats not a huge difference I suppose.

^^ghettoperson^^You're getting PC2-5300, but PC2-6400 works the same with the board. I think you're getting confused with the speed of the RAM against the type of RAM.

No I know it works, just that the 5300 is 20 quid cheaper and it's easy to get it running at higher than 6400 speeds.

Go for a different brand? eg Corsair!

I would swap the motherboard for one of those P35 chipsets, remember, you can put the next gen cpus in there (save yourself cash in the long run, and are same price new) .

Get an Enermax 600W noisetaker PSU (cheaper me thinks actually).

Up the RAM to 2GB of Geil PC6400

And possibly, upgrade the graphics card but I dunno how far you can stretch

Change the mouse to the wireless version of that. Comes with 2 rechargeable batteries what last for a while. USB hub for wireless communication doubles as the charger. Good weight to it. Easy switching of the batteries.

I agree about the MOBO, makes much more sense (and I have one), but Geil RAM doesn't actually run at the timings it proudly says it does, which is a bit ghey.

Yeah it did occur to me to do that, as the new CPU's are going to be cheap and fast, however most of the P35 boards are from Gigabyte and from what I've heard about them so far, they're pretty unreliable. The only P35 board I'd get atm would be the P5K Deluxe, but that's quite a lot more money.

@Kyle - Why get Corsair? What's wrong with Crucial?

There is nothing wrong with Gigabyte, if anything Asus boards are much worrse (not particuarly the P35 though), the only thing I know about is the DQ6 being a bit dodgey, but its pricey anyway. DS4 or DS3 are amazing boards and a higher FSB aswel.

Edit: Check out the OCUK forums, they've got some pretty good threads about this kind of discussion about components. And they're a good bunch of blokes that will answer your question in no time.

There actually pretty solid, there beating those n680i on stability and overclockability, (something about high tolerance transistors or something physics term knowones ever heard of lol).

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iqxeHdSwbp8

One I was going to replace my faulty one with (faulty Asus N680i board), there is also another one that sacrafices the DDR3 for an additional PCI-e 16x slot for crossfire, and there sub £100 off the same site you looked at.
