Just look at blazing.uk for an example on how you don't need a high k/d ratio to be good. He's got a 1:1 ratio but spends all his time reviving and healing people.
My ratio is pretty crap. I started out as a total noob but am getting better. At one stage I was getting 2 kills for every 3 deaths, but i'm improving.
If you look at a lot of the guys with a high k/d ratio, they only play 1 role on 1 map......... all the time. Someone who has 1000hours in a tank on karkland isn't gonna be good in a jet over dragon valley, they're not going to be any good at defending a flag against tanks when you're a lone spec ops on dalian plant..... or any of the other countless situations you might find yourself in if you play all the maps.
I like to play the whole game. Most of the maps and most of the classes. I've got my favorites, but my favorite thing is being able to do what I want. It'll take me a lot longer to get good than it'd take if I only played as a usmc tank on karkland.
