Join another server thats in your area
make sure you dont have any downloads running
if your on a network an there doin stuff that will effect it to

u can also check your ping rate. when ur on the connection screen for the server use alt-tab to go to ur desktop then fo into dos and ping the ip for that server. just use
ping ip.add.re.ss(enter) it will tell u the ping rate.
u can also run a traceroute using
tracert ip.add.re.ss(enter)
if your ping is high on all servers it maybe your connection or ur router.
