So, my regular refomat day has came up, and after noticing the drop in performance Battlefield 2 has had over the month, the task of maintaining the computer just so it can play games, and switching between the user accounts, I thought "Fuck it... I will dual boot".

I have not dual booted before, but this is what I did.....

So I backup, stick in the Vista disk, reboot, get to the Partition page....

I delete all previous partitions- and create 3.

One (Windows called it the "Primary") - For Vista (C:\)
2nd one for XP (D:\)
3rd for Backups

So after Vista installed, I stick in the XP disk, blah blah blah.

Get to the Partition page, select the XP Partition (D:\) and it installed.

BUT. THEN. After it rebooted (part of the installation)... it stopped working "Invalid Disk. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL To restart (or words to that affect (or effect?))

It wouldn't work.... I took out the disk, unplugges EVERYTHING, looked through the BIOS.... NOTHING.

So, "Fuck it" - Ill do it the other way round.

So I put XP disk in

I delete all previous partitions- and create 3.

One (Windows called it the "Primary") - For Vista (C:\)
2nd one for XP (D:\)
3rd for Backups
and installed XP on D:\ - again, no problems.

Then I go and install Vista... again no problems.

So here I am, Typing this on Vista.... But i can't boot into XP.

The Partition is there, the files are on it, but it doesn't give me the option when i boot to load into XP, or infact seelct which OS i want to boot into... it just loads Vista.

I have check in Vista- in the startup crap in System, and it shows no mention of XP.
The BIOS doesn't tell me any information about dual boot (I think)

So, I'm tired, Im fucked off, I have searched the internet, albeit brefily, because I am sooooo fucked off. And I need Help!.

My system specs are in my signature.....

To my knowlege its impossible to have Xp and Vista on the same hard drive as Vista uses a different stucture, thats not recognised by Xp.

You can. It's just really complicated. There was another thread (kind of) about this recently. I'll see if I can find it...

Ah... here is the thread I was thinking of - you'll have to skip over me an Bertster arguing over whether 32bit windows supports 4GB of physical RAM (it does by the way) - and it doesn't give in-depth instructions, but it's a starting point.

Sorry can't help more than that - I've not got Vista yet.

Bertster7 appears to know what he's talking about in that regard, maybe try PMing him...

Its F1.... and it only shows up Vista.

Yes, I did search, and I did read all of them links. But that shows you HOW to do it, and I have already done it, and want to try and get it working, not to reinstall it.

And i'm tired.... i'm off to bed... will try more in the morning.

Jeez... that does look unnecessarily complicated... what was wrong with good old boot.ini?
