Hi leetkyle,
I'm an Irish Republican from Co. Donegal. Here in Donegal we have an orange parade at Rossknowlagh and it always passes off without incident and the atmosphere is congenial and pleasant. I respect that you guys have a tradition and that others should also respect that. What I don't respect is unionists shoving their triumphalism and their condescending attitudes down nationalists and republicans throats. Why would they want to parade down the Catholic Garvaghy Road when there's a perfectly acceptable alternative route for instance. The Orange Order is a bigoted organisation - I don't like sectarianism, I'm an atheist myself. Organisations celebrating religious differences are abhorrent to me. Them celebrating the victory at the Battle of the Boyne is fine but celebrating the fact that they're Protestant and that they successfully disowned Catholics of their land as if Protestants are superior to Catholics is something I find disgraceful. If they were more sensitive to the fact that they live in a divided community then I would have more sympathy for them but unfortunately they don't seem to.
Don't take offence. Enjoy your day.

Hi from NI!
I'm well aware of the Orange parade. Honestly, as long as you don't interfere with the morons, you shouldn't really be happy. It is celebrating the fact that one side is better than the other side, and even though I am a protestant for sole belief reasons, I won't mascaraed about it. I know all of the Orange order organization's information. I also heard a rumour that Stelios wants to support it for easy (the company) reasons, is that true? The whole day is disgraceful! And yep, you are right - the bulk of Northern protestants fail to see that we are in a divided community.
Don't get me wrong, I love living in
Northern Ireland and I wouldn't want it to change (no offence, of course) - but I don't see the need is pointing out that Ireland has a divide line. In a foreign country, if I am asked where I live (be it by someone who doesn't have my details, eg. Hotel) then I'll always just say "Ireland".
