Well, I've been playing Engineer for some time now, but I can't seem to get decent K/D ratios to save my life.  I know that's not the entire point of playing a kit, but I don't get squat for SPM, either.

99% of the time, I use the MP7.  I hate shotguns, because you're forced to use a pistol on anyone more than 15m or so away. (okay, sometimes you can use grenades)  I try to get in Tanks/APCs/Helis in every game, but someone always gets there before I do.  So, after standing there a while, I feel like I'm being worthless to my team, so I head off with my squad and try to go cap flags with my squad.

But, in the end, I'm usually left walking on foot as engineer with an MP7 in hand.  Is this bad?  Should I =always= be in a vehicle?  I just can't seem to get in one, so I'm left standing there helplessly for minutes on end.  Any advice for being a better engineer?  I could surely use them.

Peronsaly this is my least liked class, for mostly the reasons you mentioned.  Unless you are right next to a combat vehicle, or a blown asset, you feel rather usless.  Mines are TK buttons, shotguns are crap.  God only knows how many shotgunners I have knifed.  I do not have the engi SMG unlocked, thus I use the pistol most often.

It's usually best to get a tank as an engineer or an APC because engineers aren't really equipped for warring out people head-to-head, toe-to-toe, rather, they're more useful as flag defenders, and my personal choice, a main kit to use as a commander because people tend to blow shit up and you might not have allies which will repair your UAV trailer, radar or artillery so it's best you do it yourself.

Engineer is an underdog kit with very little props to 'em, blackhawk crewing is good too, as long as you have a successful, cooperative pilot, just repair the blackhawk, when finished, take on the minigun sides and start wailin' out the rounds.

As for a decent kill/death ratio, man that's all a matter of practice, luck and speed to get a tank/APC LOL. I like the MP7 too but I find the shotguns to be rather more effective than the MP7 for some reason. I used the engineer kit for a long time in the beginning and got the engineer badges lightyears before I even got the other badges I have now, but it's all practice, and a zealous nature to think you can take on the world with your shotgun/MP7. I know that's how I feel.

I wrote a guide on how to be a great engineer - search for "engineer" and me as the author - it should have some great tips for you.

As an engineer you also have your AT-mines. They are very usefull for setting up an ambush. Keep an eye on your mini-map and look for enemy tanks, APC's and cars. Throw mines in the path you think they will take or sneak up behind an unsuspecting tank and drop an AT-mine in it's path.

I personally don't have much experience with the MP7 but, whenever I play with a weapon that is not that powerfull, I try to be a little more sneaky to get the advantage on my enemy. You should once again use the mini-map to your advantage and look for enemies spotted by team mates or UAV.

And don't forget your grenades. Any class with grenades can be powerfull. Just use the grenades with caution and you will get plenty of kills. Don't run into the open throwing grenades in every direction. Throw them over a wall or round a corner before turning it.

Alright, thanks for the advice everyone.  I currently have to log off, but I found your topic, TehSeraphim, and I'll be sure to read it when I log back on.

I checked out your guide, TehSeraphim, and really enjoyed it.  I think I'll be doing a lot better as an engineer now.

I still have one question, though.  When you use the MP7 at CQC, do you find it better to use it on full auto, or single?  A lot of people say to keep it in auto, but the accuracy with the MP7 is kinda bad when standing up, and having it in full auto hurts it more.  But, most of the time, I'm out-gunned when I have it in single.  (I know I don't need to be going toe-to-toe with others, but it happens at times)  So, to anyone who uses the MP7, in what situations (if any) is it better to use it on single?

as an eng weapom I love the mp 7 due to volume of rounds you can send down range... I can hit the op4 5 to 6 times with it before the op4 can get the 3 on me. But only at close to med range. And as for the eng on bfsf forget about it  unless u r repair the round it is the most usless class in the game. I have over 120 hours as an eng with 40 or less in the other classes. As far as getting a tank or apc play on maps that are amour frendly. Dragon valley the wet lands feshe and the gulf. Lots of tanks lots of apc's there is alway 1 empty one at each. stay away from ocs the jets and the helos just own anything that moves...karkland you have to lucky to get an apc or tank... but its a great map to get points on

I've given up on placing mines . 99.99% of the time I get punished by some noob who ran over them . Also I shot down a helicopter (that was smoking very bady) with the shotgun - full transport helo too . I bet the guy in the jeep who made him smoke was pissed I stole all his kills but oh well lol . I shot it from about 40 ft away too hahahahah - one lil pellet hit it I guess . I dont have any problem finding a vehicle but when all are taken I just jump in one as a guest gunner . If you are in an APC as a guest you can get points for repairing nearby tanks and stuff . Also today I tried repairing a tank that was spawn raping the first flag on Karkand . I was on the US side and was near the left handside of the allys where there are 2 openings where the tank was just killing everybody . I was behind the fence though and I can here the tank getting hit by anti tank units . But check this out - I tried to repair him through the fence wall and it worked ! Thing that is so cool is that you are practically hidden and have the advantage of being behind cover . I kept fixing him we eventually took the flag . Then onto the hotel but I got killed by a sniper lol .
