Why did MajorSpittle get banned?

I forget exactly what it was but it got chuy on the forum posting his displeasure. It was to do with racism against Irish people if I remember correctly. And before you ask: I had nothing to do with it.topal63 wrote:

I don't remember exactly but he was temp banned before by Ty (I think) for saying "Islam is a disease" and other racist sentences that I can't remember either. Method and him kept flaming each other until Ty came.CameronPoe wrote:

We don't usually discuss why someone gets banned, but a perm-ban usually means that you are repeatedly violating one of the rules and you have had multiple warnings to correct your posting style.topal63 wrote:

Are mods able to know if someone who's been banned is here but with a new account ?OrangeHound wrote:

Because I'm suspecting some members.

Here's the deal. "People", per se, never get banned. In all honesty, anyone with half a brain could get around any kind of imposed ban. As such, we only ban accounts and the history you've created with them. For many people, this is enough that they will usually stay in line. Sometimes, it isn't.
If you get busted one too many times or just blatantly violate the rules, you lose the account. We're not saying you can never ever come back to the site, you just can't come back with that account anymore. It's like running out of Man's in Mario -- you gotta go back to level 1. This means that if an account is permabanned, it's quite alright to clean your shit up and come back as another user*. We're cool like that. Of course, a dick the second time around would get booted just the same, so it doesn't always work.
As such, the general policy is that we do not unban accounts -- pretty much ever.
* This policy DOES NOT apply to TempBans which are "timeouts" -- we reban if you create dupe accounts to circumvent a tban
Generally, yes (but not always) ... we have multiple tools that allow us to identify a user trying to avoid a temp-ban, or a user returning after a perm-ban.Lost Hope wrote:

We don't "hunt them down" ... if a user comes back on the forums under a new name and stays under the radar, we would never notice that it is a member returning. But, if the user starts acting up on the forums - getting the attention of the moderators - we might check to see if this is a previous account holder.Lost Hope wrote:
I know but can they see what is the new account of someone who was here before but that's been banned. What Chuy said is that they can make a new account but he didn't say that mods will hunt them down.
The problem in the D&ST section is that mods will always punish by temp bans or perm bans if it's bad but I don't see warnings in the thread itself much often, I only see them in real big flame fests. You guys should post more often warnings to calm things before it gets too heated.OrangeHound wrote:

I think it depends upon the style of the moderator. Some mods keep the flames in the thread and put the AWM's in the thread (you know this typically because the end of the thread has an odd {quote} tag in there), other mods send the AWM's via PM, and still other mods tend to not generate any AWM - they just log the infraction. Personally, 95% of the time I tend to remove flames (because flames if left in a thread tend to derail and promote other flames), and I generate AWMs via PM. The other 5% of the time I feel that there is some public good to knowing why a post is being disciplined, and I'll post the AWM or other warning in the thread.Lost Hope wrote:

It can get really difficult to follow a thread when it's filled with flames when you are mostly a reader.

yeah, Spittle is Lotta_Drool
I remember that one of his thread was well written and well thought and he actually convinced me. And that's about it, a lot of his posts were often flames and it ruined the threads he got involved in (along with other members). I post rarely but I like to read a good debate but the next day it can be filled with flames and I wouldn't be able to follow it any more.ATG wrote:
I enjoyed Spit.
He confessed to me he was neither skilled at knowing when to stop or wise about picking battles.
He knew a perma ban was coming and contacted me just before it happened.
RIP Spit.
