well, i have a pretty old computer and i want to know if this hard drive is compatible with my system

this is my specs
CPU: AMD athlon xp 2500+, Socket A
motherboard: Asus A7N8X-X
GPU: Nvidia 7600GS 256mb
Optical Drive: HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4521B  (DVD:16x, CD:52x/32x/52x DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
Hard drive: MAxtor 6Y080L0 80 GB, which is very little and i'm running out of space.
any help will be apprecriated.
and i just want to make a suggestion, if anyone want to make a guide on how to choose Hard drive?

Probably the better option if you want to offload files. In this case you could just get an external usb drive (but get one that supports both SATA and USB).

Yes. You might need something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6812105008
depending on what type of power connections your psu has. SATA drive have a different power plug then the IDE drives you have now. Some of those SATA pci cards may come with them, I'm not sure.

What are you doing with the drive?  Is it just storage or is it going to be you new main drive?  If its jsut storage it would be easier to go with the external.

Why do you want a SATA drive in particular?

If you're just after more HDD space, you could just get IDE.

Which would be compatible with your system.

my PSU is new so i don't need new adaptor, the hard drive pretty much will be for storage.
