On My Maths Work, we are doing some work on what people call the "Golden Ratio", however I have completely forgotten over the holidays how to do this.

The question asks:

[*]Write the exact lengths (in surd form) of the line segments AF and BF.

Now, I know that AF = 13cm and BF = 5cm.
Now how do I write them in surd form?

Karma for whoever is awesome enough to help me.

surds are roots of irrational numbers like square root of 3

wtf.

You can't write 13 and 5 in surd form.  I'd check those answers.  If they were square root of 13 and 5, now that would be a different matter.

It seems strange writing whole numbers in surd form but
13cm = 13root1 cm
5cm = 5root1 cm

Unless this relates to triangles somehow. Is ABF a right angled triangle? Because if it is then the unknown side AB is 12cm.

LAWLZ. Arent you older than me?

Surd form is square root so

AF = <Square root symbol>13
BF = <Square root symbol>5

Ummm, are you saying that 15 = Square root 15?

Of course, you can always write 15 as square root of 15 squared.
