Is it possible to be demoted in BF2? Like say you were just promoted to Staff Sargeant. If you got enough negatives to put you under 5000 points, would you be demoted?

No you can't be demoted. If you finish a round with a negative score, it records on your stats as zero. Therefore you can't lose global score, and can't get demoted.
I believe there is a sound file buried in the game data, something about being demoted, but it never gets used anywhere.

Very correct. Sadly some people believe they know the answer and provide false info. Even if you were on a server that had turned TK punish off, and had no set max of teamkills, and you were to go into the -100's, your global score remains the same. AFAIK, there is no demotion in the game. If you see forum members calling for a demotion here, it is related to the status here in the forums. instead of banning someone, we can set his account to "read only", which means he can't post any more, only read.

thats when you get demoted. a guy in another thread had it done to him.
No, try it. It doesn't happen.
The best you could do it earn your promotion early in a round, quit out before it registers, then enter another game to earn it again.

Demotions do not happen. I've tested the system as far as negative scores go. Never once has my score dropped. Since the score has to drop to get demoted...One cannot be demoted.the_heart_attack wrote:

i know score cannot drop in bfhq, but when you enter a round the server gets a snap shot of your stats, thats how you get awards and promotions ingame.Cyberwolf wrote:
