C'mon how is this not posted yet .

"BAGHDAD - Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Saturday that the Iraqi army and police are capable of keeping security in the country when American troops leave "any time they want," though he acknowledged the forces need further weapons and training.

The embattled prime minister sought to show confidence at a time when congressional pressure is growing for a withdrawal and the Bush administration reported little progress had been made on the most vital of a series of political benchmarks it wants al-Maliki to carry out."

Al-Maliki told a Baghdad press conference that his government needs "time and effort" to enact the political reforms that Washington seeks — "particularly since the political process is facing security, economic and services pressures, as well as regional and international interference."

"These difficulties can be read as a big success, not negative points, when they are viewed under the shadow of the big challenges," he said.

In the White House strategy, beefed-up American forces have been waging intensified security crackdowns in Baghdad and areas to the north and south for nearly a month. The goal is to bring quiet to the capital while al-Maliki gives Sunni Arabs a greater role in the goverment and political process, lessening support for the insurgency.

Ok, Mission accomplished...lol
Bring'em home.

So now they're basically shifting the blame for the US still being in Iraq back onto the US, citing political reform demands. This whole sorry mistake on the part of the 'coalition of the willing' is reaching endgame.

You can't charge someone for something they didn't ask for. On the upside what you were spending there per day can now go back into the infrastructure of your own country.

Alright, lets leave...

I give the iraqi police 45 seconds to implode...

they can barely control themselves, how does he expect them to control the country?

I semi-agree with this. Personally, i think he's only saying that, to keep his own populace happy, who im sure don't want the US there any longer than is necessary.

Malaki is a Shiite stooge. . . . probly takes orders from Iran. . . .

Fuck him! He's almost as incompetent as George W. is!!!

If we left Iraq, that place would be even more fucked than it is now. . . . Trust me, we aint goin' anywhere.  That incompetent fuck can shut his mouth and do his job, namely getting an oil contract worked out between all rival factions!!

Just leave, they're even asking for it now. They need a civil war one way or another and it WILL happen, the US should cut and run seen as it's almost a no win scenario anyway.

Cutting and running is exactly what the terrorists want us to do. . . .  it aint gonna happen dude!!

We have invested WAY TOO MUCH time and effort in Iraq to let it go to al-Qaeda and the Iranians. . . .

Leaving Iraq would essentially be the most disasterous move the US has ever made. . . .outside of getting involved in Vietnam.

Its easy to monday morning quarterback. . . .

Bottom line is we are there, we need to find a way to win! plain and simple. . . .

Leaving now is not winning. . . .  It wouldnt be fair to our vets or the innocent Iraqii's if we just got up and left!

We should however remove troops out of relatively pacified areas of the country. . . . keep the majority of our troops fighting al-Qaeda in the big cities. . . .

AQ only got a foothold in the country in the first place because the US removed Saddam's regime. The terrorists will only lie dormant in that region, when the US eventually leave the wave of nationalism that will inevitably accompany that moment will reawaken the extremist elements.

Possibly. . . .

There will be extremist elements regardless. . . . .The key is killing as many of them as possible.

al-Qaeda if not neutralized will wreck the country more than they already have done. . . . .you do realize that its al-Qaeda trying desperately to continue the sectarian fight, and the provocation of the Shiites.  They are a menace. . . . The hardline insurgents are al-Qaeda!!! They are the ones keeping Iraq from becoming pacified.

The average Iraqi doesnt want al-Qaeda running around unchecked, killing and bombing and stamping their brand of Islam on Iraq!!  Its been known that the average Iraqi doesnt want al-Qaeda running the show!!  The average Iraqi wants peace and stabilization. . . . Same thing that the US forces want too!!
