I have been keeping an eye on this story for a while, mainly because I wanted to know wtf really happened. Or as close to what really happened as possible. As the details come out on this, I feel more and more for the guys who are out there every day with impossible decisions to make. I was never an infantry man. So from the outside, it sounded fucked up at first, but as the details come out, I dont see that these guys are totally in the wrong.

The majority of soldiers seem to be able to handle it without "going crazy" and killing everyone because they think they're insurgents. Looks like these guys couldn't. Not saying I could though, how am i supposed to know...i haven't been there.

I just find the difference in the initial reporting to now amazing. first, sensationalism. Now its more convoluted.

How about you discuss the subject and then derail?

Guess not.

See unlike your friends in that part of the world, we get held accountable for what we do.  For example, killing civilians.  We get put on trial, they get put on a pedestal.

For all the things I have a go at the US administration over, that is one thing I can totally respect them for, they don't fucking whitewash incidents & lie, they stand the perpetrators in court and put them on trial and convict the guilty not award them KnightHoods and medals..

Parachute Regiment led by Lieutenant-Colonel Derek Wilford which murdered 26 innocent civilians? awarded a knight hood, or any of the former heads of Special Branch like Sir Ronnie Flanagan & all the other heads of Special Branch that are now Sirs this that and the other..   Only one Brit has faced charges over the atrocities and murders of men, women, and children here, and the only one that ever did get jailed was released and continues to server..

I feel bad for them. I think we should never have been there. But that doesn't change the fact that we have troops there on the ground who have a fucked up situation to deal with day in and day out.

I shouldn't have to preface the topic with anything about civilians as I was speaking about the our soldiers. Do you really think that I support innocent civilians being slaughtered?

Lieutenant-Colonel Derek Wilford, that from the 90's talking about present day here mate! times change (slightly) or at least better covered up so we don't know! name an officer that's been knighted from afghan or Iraqi for killing civs. as for special branch they have to deal with things we will never have to as we aren't them so how can you judge them for that

He never does...its the typical "derail thread" from Meth. Nothing good to say and nothing constructive. Just take a look at his post history...notice anything? Yeah....short, snotty remarks that do nothing but piss people off. Rarely anything of use and at this point when I see a post by him, I just go to the next because its not worth the time to read.

Now on point. I don't envy these guys in their situation. If you look at what is going on, you basically never know where your enemy will come from. Some guys are strong enough to handle it but as in any war...some people can't and reach a breaking point. At least the people in charge don't let these things slide. People should all understand that war crimes happen in every war by every side because it comes down to the mentality of each soldier and in all wars not everybody is built mentally to handle it. Always remember that these things are isolated...not common as some brainless wonders on these forums believe.

Yeah, it seems that people don't understand that the military are instruments of policy, not the makers of it. It seems to me you can violently disagree with the current administrations policies and tactics without talking shit about our men and women in uniform. Wonder why people assume our armed forces are so evil?

Ah right. I see the point you're making, my point was in relation to my experience and where I come from.  No atrocities (of which there were a great deal of committed here) involving the death of innocent civilians resulted in convictions of the perpetrators - in fact in most cases the British State refuses to even admit they occurred choosing to Whitewash over them with bullshit enquires instead..  I'm pointing out the fact that Americans are to be commended with how they deal with such actions.
