hey, I'm sorry that we "religious retardes" plague the earth.

However, you cannot deny that a HUGE portion of the greatest artwork on earth has been painted, sculpted, performed, constructed for religion.

Your statement is purely hateful, inflamatory, and ignorant.  What the hell, man...seriously

He was only calling them retards because they voted on the Christ statue not because it is a great wonder of the world (sadly, I guess it is now...), but because it was based on their religion.  There is no great architectural achievement in making a statue on a mountain.  Had the statue been of Buddha, or Laozi, it would not have been voted into the category of "Wonders of the New World".

How can this:

have made it into the 'New 7 World Wonders' over this:

http://www.presscluboftibet.org/UserFil … palace.jpg

the Potala Palace, Tibet, which didn't even make the fucking shortlist!!!!?

Christ Redeemer is hardly a feat of engineering. Post details of which 'Wonders' you think should have made it into the top 7 or even the shortlist, perhaps something from your own country?
probably because its not as new, personally in terms of wonderment it wins hands down.
but it was started nearly 1,500 years ago.
on the otherhand things like the pyramids were finalists.

I've been there. It's near this town called Hill City which has this amazing restaurant called The Alpine Inn. You reallly should get reservations to get in though since the place usually has a line out of the door. Damn that place has some amazing desserts, too.

btw I thought it is a new list not list of brand new wonders ?

So old buildings are a fair game as long as they still exist.

True......it even beat out Angkor Wat, I was shocked that this statue made it over so many other true wonders....that was a joke...
Hmm... I've been to Angkor Wat. That's place is so 'touristy'. There's like 10-15 5 star hotels in the (very) close city of Siem Reap that cater for the japanese 'weekend holiday'. They fly down on the friday night, see the place on saturday and fly back on Sunday. My experience of that place may be further tainted by the fact our guide was sleazy, somewhat chauvinistic and only interested in getting a tip (which he didn't get!).
Yes, I'm sure most wonders become "touristy" but you can't deny that Angkor Wat is truly something amazing in its own right. It was one of the finalist but didn't make the final seven and is more deserving than a sem-big statue. Some people are confused about what this list is. Since most of the original 7 wonders do not exist any more, there was a public poll to choose existing structures (old and new) to make a new list. It was like voting for a baseball all-star game...some on the list just don't deserve to be there but that is what you get when you involve the public. Another wonder that should have been considered and I am not even sure it was even on the list at all is this place....."Borobudur"- The World Mountain.....this place is huge.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borobudur

This is an amazing place. The whole place is basically carvings, stories, and statues on every inch of this place.

As far as places I've been to (and I know it's not new, but thought I'd post it anyway) the Pantheon in Rome is absolutely breath-taking:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/90/Pantheon_rome_2005may.jpg
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/69/Pantheon-panini.jpg

The roof is a perfet hemisphere. When it rains it pours in through the roof onto the marble floor. It's the only building i've ever been in and felt agoraphobic, it's just so big. And ontop of all this, it's over 2000 years old.
