Hello there!

Well i just bought myself a new graphics card a BFG Geforce 8800gtx, and i allways got this weird stripes on my screen while playing, and after ive stopped BF2 i only got a black screen and i had to restart my pc, it also sometimes happen that i got everything in a bright yellow :S
The bloke in the PC shop told me its about my PSU so i bought a new one today, TAGAN TH480-U22 with 480W but it seems useless, i got all these issues again, and now it think its because the GFX card is overheating, could that be? Do i need some extra cooling for the gfx card? Sorry im a noob, please tell me if you want me to post my rig

Looking forward to your help!

Thanks in advance

i think the 8800's are known for overheating anyway.

480 watt on a GTX?!?! Do you know what the amperage is on the PSU?

480's enough.

Yes, but if the power supply isn't providing enough amperage, then that could be his problem...

Weird stripes?

It could be that you installed the video card in a bad way or something something slightly similar happened with my 6600. What happens with other video cards? If it's fine with other video cards, get the 8800GTX replaced.

Could be overheating or bad PSU, but if nVidia detects a low PSU doesn't it say "you have a crappy PSU, i'm lowering speeds so it doesn't act gay"

The most likely culprit is the card itself.

Nope never had any problems with my other video cards, allways worked perfectly, and ive also got the newest driver for the new gfx card, installed it normally, i didnt even set the graphics on all-high @ BF2 :S

Power supply looks good, must be your graphics card then, get it RMA'd if necessary

take the bad boy out, reseat it, got your 6-pin pcie power cable connected to it?  double check you downloaded the right drivers, reinstall drivers.  if that don't work, i think you got a bad card.  where did you buy card from?

oh, and go evga next time!!!

Well you are posting in tech, not talking to a friend who knows nothing about computers. So if you want to make a valid contribution there Judy, maybe you could explain why you think this particular card is a waste of money?

From the looks of it, like somebody else here said, I think the graphics card is bad.  I would get a RMA for it.  If it happens with the replacement, its obviously not the graphics card.  In that case, I would think it is a compatbability issue with the motherboard and graphics card together.

Use the NVIDIA Monitor tool that came with the card to check the temp then post them on here. At a guess if say its a funky card or ur over heating.

Tell us how it goes with replacing the card, I've been looking at one of these for my next system.

Yeah mine does things like that 8800GTS but only on BF2 everything else its fine i think it actually goes worse when i set BF2 to medium than when i set it to high, although somethings been causing my pc to crash whilst playing Bf2 and i've tested the RAM and the CPU and both are fine. Oh and my PSU's a 550 watt one.

Mines EVGA would you reccomend that i do the same?

I would've thought 480W would be a bit on the low side for a GTX. Although that is a pretty nice PSU, I'm not sure it'll be able to cope. But I'm not sure, it's borderline.

I've seen quite a few BFG cards die with no reason, but they replace them pretty quick. It could be that - but I'm still leaning towards thinking you need a bigger PSU - not much bigger, maybe a 550W, but 480W for a GTX is optimistic.
