I recently installed Windows XP on a new hard drive, as far as everything else old hardware. I've installed Speedfan before and want to do so again, but after I install it and try to run it for the first time, the box comes up and my computer proceeds to go into various, progressively worse states of freezing until I have to do a hard restart. Any advice?

They are bogus readings.

Flaming, I recommend you try Everest Home Edition to see what your temperatures are, instead of Speedfan. This can then determine whether it is Speedfan giving your system problems or your temperatures. There will always be a bogus reading or two, just ignore it! (eg 245C, -34C etc)

There are a lot of tech threads and when it goes down to the bottom of page 1, it is forgotten about usually. I think bumping is fine in this section assuming it is low down on page 1 or on page 2.

Your SpeedFan unit in the computer is broken. You need to download a new one, proper for your motherboard and Hard drive. They should be available for download on the speedfan site. Just extract, install, and the SpeedFan replacer unit (A little arm that comes out of the northbridge) should replace the SpeedFan unit, and the old one should pop out of your CD drive.

Just so that I don't appear to be an idiot, no, I'm not serious.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Apparently the 150gb Raptor drive isn't supported, and I think this may be adding to the instability of the program. That, and nothing on that drive is stable, I think I may have a defective drive.

One question on speedfan.  what is the -12 volt reading for???
On my speedfan that is the only one that seems wrong or different.
It is reading -16v
