Ok in this site theres is already like 30 guides about kits/vehicles and stuff like that. But this time, ill just give you tips on stuff people usually dont seem to do but help you a LOT. Basically they just require a bit of mind into the game when playing. Some things might be obvious to some old cs players as in that game small things mattered MUCH more. Lets begin!

1. Use your sounds. You didnt buy that x-fi card for nothing did you? Just hear the environment. Hearing something like "frag out!" can tell you already a lot. Dont use only english sounds as that can mess you up as you dont know what theam the player is on. Also, if the sound settings are on low, this is pretty much useless as there are no player shouts AT ALL.
Just hear whats happening around you. Footsteps mean action, tank threads mean running like hell. Hearing a tank behind a fence should tell you that you shouldnt peek from that hole in the fence. I myself use really bad speakers and i still can hear a good amount of stuff. And this is actually not even saying a thing about the sounds of guns.

2. Shadows. The shadows on bf2 are REALLY buggy, as they can be seen through walls. If a sniper is on a roof, you can see his shadow behind the building he is on top of. And its not just sniper shadows. Seeing a shadow of a an APC is the same as someone spotting it for you.

3. Environment. Be on the lookout ALL THE TIME. If you see a black thing fly in front of you, dont go after it. Its not a texture bug, lag peak messing up or some code bug. Yes its a nade duh. C4 on the ground means usually a guy on hiding somewhere. Ignoring c4 just makes you go boom.
Basically, just look around you before rushing in. I can easily let my team get that flag 25m in front of me if im assuming there might be an arti coming or something like that.
Something i find very useful is to jump to see over fences. If you just next to a fence, you can see over it easily. Pack of c4 after that = Instant death.

4. Assuming. This is a thing i do a LOT. Many players in bf2 are very straight forward and rushing type. They just come at you and try to toob even if someone is aiming a nuke at them from the side. If you even see/hear a tiny bit of them, you can usually tell which direction they are going. Spotting them fast of course gives you the exact location of them for a small time.
Lets take a little example here. You play on karkand us side, going to hotel. You kill some dude on the alley where usually everyone is. You see another guy coming behind him but you need some healing and reload etc. to do. So what do we do? We assume that he will just come rushing at me and run to either of the roads and just go behind him! Or then you can camp behind a corner where you assume hes coming to and just hear when hes coming.

5. USE THE MAP! I had to caps that, its so important. The map is there for a reason. Its not only for UAV. You can take a shitload of info from the map when you just look at it carefully. If you are flying and get locked by AA, you ought to instantly check what aa sites are not appearing on the map because when an enemy goes to one, it disappears from the map. Vehicle disappears from map? More enemies. Flag gets neutralized? Even more enemies.
Also, you can see where the enemies are by looking at the guys who are dying. All the dead guys on the map are pointing straight north. If you see a lot of dudes pointing north on the map, yes you quessed it, more enemies. Just look at it for an extra 2 secs and you have an advantage.

6. In combat. Seeing 5 enemies rushing at you never can be good if your on foot. Of course it wouldnt be wice to face them head-on as that would result in no good so what do we do? We FOLLOW them. Yes, follow them. Just hide behind something for a few moments and go after them. Just wait that all of the enemies have went by and then start running after them. Just take them out one at a time and hide for a moment again. If the enemy is dumb, you wont even have to hide. This is of course an example.

7. Hiding. Of course, being hidden is a good thing. Rushing like mad is almost always worse than going silently to the rear of the enemy. Being hidden in a good spot where you can move a bit to shoot at enemies is great. If the enemy is on an open space, you can easily just pick him out. (More coming to this section)

8. Take the enemys position. Use a bit of that imagination skill of yours. See the game on the enemys eyes. Did that enemy see me, or not? Is he going to throw a c4 over the fence or rush me? What would i do if i were him? This brings us back to the assuming part. Imagine what the enemy can see and hear and then use that to your advantage.

9. Patience. Even if you see 1 easy target, make sure he isnt surrounded by a squad of other guys. One enemy turning into 5 can mean a bit of a change hows the fire fight going to end. (More to come)

I just want to see some people who actually think before doing something. Im not  specially skilled or anything like that. I just THINK when i play. I assume a lot and put myself into the position of the enemy.

I will be updating this as i think of other things. Usually i remember them when i play as i always use all of these things when playing.

Btw, i just turned 16. I feel enlightened and that is why this guide is written .

Edit: YES it is pretty much common sense and obvious to some people.

Nice, nice, very nice. That's the way I try to play. Could I add somethings ? :
_never stay too long around flags, enemy commander usually drops arty fire on flags, so after capturing it or while protecting it, stay out of reach of the "arty circle strike", its center usually points the flag. It's useful to "stick together" with teammates but a large group of soldiers always draw enemy's attention. I prefer alternating between being close to my squad and being a bit far away from my teammates, but I'm always in a squad, being a lone wolf sucks !

Nice. A lot is common sense but I like it. I use headphones so that I can hear which way the enemy is. It does scare the shit out of me though when my girlfriend comes screaming through the door!

btw I would like to add 10.

10. Respect.
NEVER punish for tk. In 30% its your mistake, in 50% your teammates.  Only 10% of players who are ***censored*** teamkillers deserve to be punished. If someone tk you for a vehicle let im be and dont start a kick vote. Kick vote is a joke. Got killed by a n00b t00b, relax, especially if tuber is bunnyhop. Remember that even if he killed you, you are better than him. Dont chat and say you are a f nOOB etc. Sure sometimes its really stupid when person blow himlesf up with you. In this case I usually say, "lame". Remember its just a game. If someone is ruining it saying racist crap and bla bla bla, just know that he is probably 10 yrs old, wants some attention and thinks that all this crap make him older.

Thanks

Or as soon as you behind them (medium/close range) lay down and give them some LMG party. Sure not every LMG can handle it. But with PKM from behind you can take  at least 3 of them in 2 seconds. Others will run away surely.

+1 Playing city map... If you killed someone camp for a few seconds near his body or throw a grenade. 75% of medics will not look around and rush to revive the guy, you just killed. Wait until medic revived the guy, than kill them both. Sorry Medics. I love Medics

Excellent guide. I think that this deserves a sticky, or maybe even a featured post. [/Wink]

Most of the good players already do most of these things, but in short it all boils down to this concept: Be Alert.

A thoughtful addition.

4a. Additionally assume that many players will be creatures of habit and use the same travel routes from flag to flag. Learn these all too common routes and adapt your own variant routes that conceal your from the main route or give you the higher ground. This helps with ambushing from behind or bypassing the enemy entirely to get to an unguarded flag.

Note about the AA reference, you have to be zoomed in past the farthest zoom-out level to see vehicle and aa spawns.

This is difficult to do while flying because it really detracts from your aviation performance with your minimap either a) always zoomed in to check AA sites b) zooming in and out constantly to check AA sites. Makes it much harder to fly well.

The better solution is to switch into rear-view when you hear AA lock, and watch where the missles actually come from. Not only do you find out where they come from, but rear view makes it that much easier to make a mental flight course in your head of your next maneuvers to get there, then looking at the minimap. E.g. those rockets came from point Y which I can physically see in my 3d view, I will do X turn to get there the fastest.

If you want to see how bad AA really is, you can actually get used to how long a rocket takes to get to you once you hear a missle tone, and just fly perfectly straight, and at the last millisecond give it a slight babying to the left or right, and the missile will go right past. You get about a 0.5 second window where you can physically see the missle chasing you, in that last 0.1 if you just nudge your jet a little bit, it zooms right by - I used to do it all the time with the Essex AA because if you do that while your behind a helicopter, you can make the essex kill their own vehicles. Its fun!

If u look at my stats u will see that ive only got 3 hours as lone wolf, and other players should be like that, even if your a world class sniper!, as the saying goes, knowledge is power, Knowledge, man power and instints are the key to winning a battle in THE ENTIRE BF SERIES! no team can do without these factors, (not if ure something like darren brown and u can predict things, but then again, hes a little phycotic!)
guys, along with this and the tips shown here, u will go far in this game!
(but some guys r stat padders, and they ruin the entire game fr us all and therselves)

P.S. who really cares about a stat padder, they're SCUM of the highest order!

Adding some more now, had to go play some floorball with some dudes.

10. Bullets and everything. NEVER, i mean NEVER go around a corner if you can see or hear bullets going in front of you. Wait it to clear for a while and then go. Or then if its possible, go to the rear of the enemy again. That extra 15 secs you need to run behind the enemy is better used for that than respawning.
One thing about missiles and the helis "minigun". If you see missiles coming from behind you (you should check behind you always with "C"!), a good way to dodge them is to dive deep down then turn almost immediatly left or right and start spinning whilst turning at the direction where the missiles came from.

11. In the heli. The biggest fears for helis in city maps are of course vodniks/humwees. Once you find the one shooting, you usually have already lost 1/2 of your hp. So you do a fast dive towards it. If you killed it, good, no problem. But if you didnt, youre in a bit of a mess. Heres how to deal with that. If you miss the jeep, instantly STOP going forward. Just get over it and it cant shoot. Just keep on going higher and higher...then when youre high enough, just dive straight down, shoot and pull up. If still no luck in killing, rinse and repeat.

12. Spawning. Yes this is important atleast if you play 24/7 karkand. NEVER wait that 1 second after spawning to start moving. Thats enough for atleast 7 and 3/4 spawnkillers to take you out. ALWAYS be ready when spawning or getting revived.

Thats all this time...gotta play some more. Thats the easiest way to remember them.

very VERY good guide, kinda thing that u stick up and pin to the wall.
Could u give us some tips about not getting killed after running or swimming MILES just to get a flag, that u assumed will have like NO defenders!!

Computermash, that means the enemy team knows teamwork. Their commander probably spotted you, and some guys responded by tracking you down. Not much to do about that.

Also, this is a very good guide for the players who want to improve themselves. Nice job.

I agree. I like to think while i play the game. I guess that's what sets me apart from the dull-witted mass majority.

Also, use the UAV's to your advantage. I always seem to be the one who kills the camper on the UAV. Yeesh. Some people are blind these days. Also, pilots should watch their maps before going and bombing. Usually they take out a friendly squad which is assembled around a flag. *Punish*, he should have looked.
When you're commander, please alert your team of incoming artillery stikes? Soldiers usually flock to artillery like flies to dead meat. Also, watch where you're putting the artillery! Sometimes commanders place them where there is only ONE person. A whole artillery for ONE PERSON!?!?!?!?

I notice that games usually attract very slow-minded people. Sad, aren't there any intelligent gamers out there? I NEED A COMPANION!!!

People shouldn't undermine snipers. Especially not me I am a very tedious sniper to kill. I once took out about 2-3 guys on my own in close combat. One with the rifle, and the rest with my faithfull, never-failing pistol. But snipers should use the pistol. And not try to kill you by putting claymores on your head. They take a while to arm you know.

Add this one: RED SKULLS DON'T MEAN SUNSHINE AND BUTTERCUPS! Always press Alt when you're not sure of what the red skull is identifying, as Alt toggles those little thingies. All you newbies out there, please don't punish for claymore or mine kills. Unless the claymore/mine has been put in an absolutely stupid place.

By the way.. When a noun ends with a 'y', to make it plural, you must chop off that 'y' and add 'ies'.

i wrote a how to do list for spec  ops fans like myself.

since i am a professional when i play spec ops. i spend 90% of my time hiding until i see a poor fellow in my sights.

i do not run and gun at all like some of these fools. i went from a player who was placed 9th or 15th in a round to the top 3..

9 times out of 10 i am the best spec ops player in a round.. Am i good......no. but at lease i dont suck like the rest of the noobs.  my player name is professionalx2324.

Case in point. Just a couple nights ago, I was at Wake Island and happened to be in a tank. Three jerksoffs come flying around a corner in a buggy.... boom they explode (usually happens when you're in a buggy and you collide with a tank, duh.) They all punished me! What a bunch of turds. Goes along with the 'use your map' item too. If you see a blue tank on the other side of a building it might not be a good idea to just go full speed ahead around a corner... you will not win against a tank.

If I get team killed, I would expect an apology, but just because I don't get one doesn't mean I'm going to punish them. They have to really do something boneheaded for a punish.

Great threads folks. Keep it up.
