Don't have a link but go to the PB Forums and do a Search.

There's a legitimate way to make PB scan your system only every 500 seconds instead of the default.

That makes a difference for some people.
I already did that.

This isn't true. Despite your alright clock speed (it's even higher than mine!), it is the actual chip that is giving you the bad performance, not the speed of it. The fact of the matter is, if you want decent frames, you can only two things with that system:

- run it on lower settings;
- upgrade.

These are your only two options! You can of course try fiddling in your CCC (I think I saw a very informative post above) and a reformat or whatever, but I doubt you will notice any major difference. Also, the higher the refresh rate, the higher your card has to work. I'd lower it to a standard 60 or 70Hz and see if you notice any difference.

It shouldn't take you too long to save up $400 for a new video card.
In like 3 months, you'd have it.

I'd never work for 3 months just for a card.

a) the card will be a lot cheaper after those 3 months;
b) you'd really blow your 3 months work on one card that will be outdated in a year?

Any upgrade on a single component like that would be a huge overkill to his system. I'd rather save up $3000 and spend $2000 on an entirely new computer that will last for a good year or two (I've been running on this system for 10 months now, and the only thing I have ever upgraded is the PSU {I broke my old one} and I added a hard drive).

lol wtf

At least I can play CS:S on decently high settings but I think the computer starts to run hot when I play anything.  For instance, this morning I was playing CS:S and it was ranging from 30-40 FPS but over the course of probably 45 minutes it dropped below 20 FPS and I decided that it was too unplayable at that time.  Maybe I should measure my case fan and get a faster one or look harder for a better video card cooler, this one's fan already runs constantly at 100% speed.  It sucks that this stock cooler goes over my PCI slot enough that the slot is unusable, I would like to put my NIC back in there because it makes a small but noticeable difference in performance.

I wish EA would've made BF2 REALLY REALLY tweakable like Valve does, then nobody would be safe from me in-game.

I'm afraid I don't know of any gaming AGP cards that cost anything over even 300$, lol.  At least not on Newegg.

This looks like the best one for AGP that I would get: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814161082

All the high end nVidia AGP cards got bad reviews for instability plus i'm an ATi fanboy anyway.

Should I make it a priority to get an LCD monitor?  I'm using a 15.7" CRT monitor right now.

Yep. If you're tight on cash, forget an funky LCD for now - cheap LCDs can be far far worse than a shitty old CRT.

well spotted shiney - I'd forgotten it was this thread...

OP: as shiney reminds us, and told you way way back earlier in the thread - a new video card is going to do nothing for you - it is your motherboard that is the problem.

Dont listen to everyone telling you to buy a new pc that decision is yours the one you have is more than capable of running the game. try some of the following

1. http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/default.asp

Run the new members test on there that should tell you if you have any major problems

2. Run full virus and spyware scans such as AVG and Adaware

3. Close all programs you have running eg MSN antivirus....

4. Drop all settings to the lowest ones

5. Update video card drivers

6. Re-Format and install Windows and BF2 again (Recomended)

Having a P4 at 2.2 ghz is ok. I have a 3200+ @ 2.1 ghz, and I play on mostly high settings in BF2 and 2142 without lag or choppiness. His processor isn't the greatest, but it shouldn't kill his computer that badly.

i'll blame your sound card (no seriously), if your sound card isnt good enough, the cpu will have to start processing sound as well so that will take up some of you clock times for sound inste4ad of the game.  At least that what it MIGHT be.

Don't knock CRTs. They may be huge and awkward, but you still get a better image on CRTs than on LCDs - I doubt that'll change for a very long time.

There just is no point in spending that much on a single component, it will just be an overkill on your system. You need to save up and get a new system, and not stay on forever-out-dating AGP.

Yup.

The only real advantage LCDs have is the amount of space they take up. And they look cool.
