a C2D should run much cooler than most cpu's, I had a Pentium D 960 that ran about that hot, but when I got my E6700, it runs in the 20-30 range under load with water cooling, no more than 50 on air.  76 is way too hot, get a better cooler, Arctic Silver 5 and clean your dust
