yesterday i needed to dust out my computer. i turned everything off, unpluged everything(speakers, keyboard, joystick, etc...), and then took out my graphics, audio, and wireless card along with all my fans so dust could get out better. i blew out the dust and cleaned all my fans.then when i was done i put in all my cards and fans, and plugged in everything. lastly i plugged in my power cord to the back of my power supply and usually when i do that i will hear some noise and all my fans will turn on for a split second, but nothing happened. i tried pressing the power swith but still nothing happened, no noise, no nothing. the light on my motherboard turned on along with the one where i plug in my ethernet cable but those are always on along as there is power to the computer. i have done all this at least 30 times before. i accidently pressed my power botton when nothing was plugged in but i dont think that would have affected anything. any help would be appreciated.

There's probably something loose.

Well obviously something isn't plugged in, unless you've managed to break it. Check the power button/power supply is connected properly? Ahh, the wonders of computers.

my case is very small and dust settles in between the cards and is very hard to get out without taking the crads out.

If it not beeps you should directly check the PS cables to see if they are not loose or something.

Right, so there is a light on your motherboard that is always lit up when there is power to the pc?

But it just wont start up? Is that correct?

Check all cable connectors to and from your mobo, power supply and peripherals.  Re seat your video card and memory.  Verify all connections and power that puppy up.  Sometimes an improperly seated video card will keep your machine from firing up.  If this does not work, swap your power supply with a different one and give it a try.  I assume everyone, like myself, keeps 5 or 6 extra pc's laying around for spare parts.

Ok, so you're sure that everything (cards etc.) are all in properly, as well as your power supply being fine.

So when you press the power button, nothing happens at all?

Did you touch any components with your hands, prior to touching a piece of metal for "destatification"? It is unlikely that you short-circuited a component but it is possible. Although I doubt it. Anyway, most of the advice here is pretty much what you should do;

- check all cables are plugged in;
- make sure everything is actually plugged in a fitted properly.

i wear a cable from my hand to the case to prevent from shocking it.

Yes. Or maybe, somehow you've disconnected the power switch pins from the mobo? Check that too

I've had this happen before.

You've blown your PSU, even though the light is on. Weird eh? Same happened to me, the fans go on for about 0.2 secs, then nothing.

New PSU time matey lol

i have checked that. when the power cord was unplugged i accidentally pressed the power button, but i repressed it to turn it off.

really? wouldn't say PSU, would rather go with Mobo if the light burns that the mobo has power yet you cannot get into bios.
mm if fans don't turn either etc it could be psu anyway

I don't see how that could make a difference. I've had my computer off before and pressed the power button and I've had no problems.

yeah check the manual for the orange light, maybe it's just bad contact or something like that?
