Aside from the vertical takeoff, I don't really see any difference in performance between the Hornet and the JSF. Granted, planes are not my specialty, but these two seem alike. Am I wrong?

in my mind i think the f18 has more of a chance of taking down a j10 in manuvers but thats just me. Both jets are good
F18 faster and better to control. (just what i think)

if I ever get to fly them, by somehow making my way throught the legions of tools that throw themselves against (and then in front of) them when they spawn, I'll let you know. 250 hours and I have still never even seen the second seat of the bomber...
I am always happy with the Vanilla F35, lots of MG round for strafing enemy flags & light vehicles, a pair of bombs, good manouverability, for speed & dexterity the F18 is probably closer too the J-10 but the F35 is well balanced. I d wish it was possible to make better use of the vertical take off facility on it though, i.e. using it in the style of Arnie in True Lies

thats sucks, just the other day i got into a SU-30, my first time EVER. Man, if people didn't always hog planes, I might be good with them...
F35 is a better aircraft. It is slated to replace a large number of American (and some British) air farce, navy and Marine aircraft including the F-18 and Harrier. It is more stealthy and is the first aircraft to ever vertically take off, go supersonic and vertically land.

From my experiences, 90+ hours, and by no means an expert (can shoot down helos all day, experienced pilots still own me ), i find the F-35 to an easire aircraft to accomplish the mission...
the higher payload, and for some reason, i find the accuracy of the F-35 to be better...i like how the bullets shoot straight from th nose, very easy to shoot anything from cars to helos, to opposing jets...
the F-18 is also a good jet, but my success and kill ratio in the F-35 is far superior...quite possibly the maps that the F-35 is available on are easier maps to fly for the less experienced pilots....
altho the F-18 seems to be more manueverable, i just have to say, imo, i like the F-35....
off the subject, the F-15 is the worst jet by far in the game....slow, sluggish, and very easy to shoot, and get shot down in....
also off the subject, just had the near perfect flying game of my career the other night on Wake, in the F-35...
56-0 with no vehicle damage and only 1 teamkill (i get the enemy target on vehicles my teammates just exit) finished the round w/ 114 pts....
as far as the initial question pertains to RL, since i'm in the military and work at an Air Base, the F-18 friggin rocks...loud as all hell with the afterburners on, but you should see em fly, quite impressive....just saw an Austrailian F-111 (i believe it's the F-111) and those things look cool as hell too!!
we also have several Apaches on base, and evertime my buddy(a fellow BF2'r) and I see em flying, we sit and watch em....those things are bad!! seen em do some manuevers that i only wish i could perform in game...(and we always make little comments like, "Hostile slick, inbound" )
still, the most impressive jet seen to this date is/are the Mig series (21, 25, 29) sheer size and the awe of it's manueverability, and the stealth fighters...they just look so cool....

I am not 100% sure on this, and I dont actually know the exact names of the planes. My observation is that the one that can hover has 300 MG bullets, but the other one has 500. . . I think.
Do you all just have no sense of speed? or what? The F35 beats both the J10 and the F18 when it comes to speed. Sure the F18 and the J10 out-turn the F35, but I'll take speed over turning anyday. When I'm in a F18, I feel like I'm in a car with a 90y/o grandma going up hill with the emergency break on.

What's the difference you guys ask? Well you can do the most radical maneuveres in the game with the F35B. You can get away from ANY jet in the game with it if you know how. To me it feels more precise--not near the level of the J10 but it's defeinitely more precise and less sluggish than the F18. If I had to rank the planes in levels of agility it would go....

The bottom 4 being equal at each level (obviously) however the guns on the Mig and and Su34 are simply the most powerful machineguns in the game. The F15's is probably *almost* at the same level of damage but I know it's not as powerful as the Mig guns.
If I'm not mistaken they're actually cannons, and not machineguns. (Like a smaller version of what is on the Mig-28.)
Afterburners are also eaten up insanely fast in the F35... quite opposite of real life too lol. The F35 and F22 raptor have "supercruise" I believe it's called that lets them sustain high speeds for longer than standard afterburners. Possibly. All the bombers are about the same but it's really hard to tell. And also let me just say off centered machine guns... as in the F15, are lame. One reason I don't like using the bombers. However nuking people is fun!
The mig is better than the f35b. Turns much more easier.
J-10's - F-18's - F35b's There all amazing planes in the game but people have there preference, in wake I get over 140 IAR with the J-10 (chinese) and 110 IAR with the F-35B(US). Its how you apply the aircraft but the F-18 is slightly less maneuverable than the F-35B, I personally rather have the MIG-29 any day. As for bombers speaking as for somebody who has been flying for almost 100hrs bombers are great for colums of armor, but to susceptible to enemy fighters. It takes skill to fly a plane but it takes more skill to kill somebody with two bombs instead of five, bombers are a great learning platform but eventually good pilots graduate to fighters. Thats my opion of course but feel free to give me flak if you think im way out in left field with my comment.
The F35-B and the F18 are the worst fighters in the game. The J10 is by far the best for air to air combat, followed by the Mig.
I seem to gun the MG a lot better with the F-35, but that just might be me.
i'd like to see the Sukhoi Su-XX Fighter series hit the game, some of the manouvers those bitches can pull would put most pilots into a nappy or 2
