Well, I'm stuck financially. It's my fault but I'm trying to fix it.
I defaulted on a federal student loan and my account was given to a collection agency. They have been calling me after 9pm in some cases and they hang up on me when I ask them to explain what I need to do to make payment arrangements that I can afford.

They tell me I have to pay $1500 in full or pay $50 a month which in most cases would be no problem but I'm moneyless because my vehicle broke down and my hours have been cut down at work (truck driver).

So, I ask them if we can work something out till my finances turn around. NO was the answer.

Fortunately this is my only defaulted loan and I do want to make good on it. I just can't afford to make the payments at this time.
Next tax season I am so paying this damn thing off.

So, any of you in the same boat? (stupid question)
Anyway, please tell me (keep it kinda brief) your financial problem so I can feel better about my situation! LOL

I've got a couple of student loans (federal and private) and I'm not having that much trouble paying them off. I suppose my only suggestion would be to find another job that pays better, especially if you have a degree.

Well not sure if you have them in us but in UK we have citizen advice buro, you can talk to them about things like that and they can tell you best possible solution....

or you can get company to take you to court and see the Judge ( as long as you willing to make some sort of payments even if it's $10 bux a month and you tell them that will increase soon as you start earning some more money ) I don't think you should have any problems

first off all: sell you vehicle, gas costs, insurance, ... it all cost to much money if you dont have alot, second, buy food at cheap stores and let the stake there. Only buy what you need and no more. Find a second job to pay of debts. and you will get better

Except, wont that fuk your credit rating?
They have to consider any offer of money, and they have to record the calls they have with you. They won't be able to prove that you refused to pay because you have offered them something and they turned it down.
Sound pretty uninforceable to me, but you will eventually have to pay it off one way or another.

well it depends if he signed a contract that he would pay 50 $  a month, then he is guilty of not complying to the terms. A guy may come and take his stuf

Thanks guys.
I was not expecting advice (but I'll consider any ideas)
My point was to have others tell me their money problems so I can feel better when I see someone who is worse off than me! LOL

I have signed no contracts.

I train people in a personal loans company in the UK.
We have trouble with people registering with the citizens advice bureau and debt collection companies. Regardless of what they agreed to pay, these companies take control of their finances and only pay us £1 per month. And there isn't a damn thing we can do about it. If we don't accept, they'll just declare themselves bankrupt and we get nothing.

Well I'm much better off than you! Muhahaha.

If you havn't signed a contract then you can wave a pretty pink digit at them and tell them to sift through your feaces for their money.
Unless, of course, you borrowed it off loan sharks, in which case you want to pay them or you will lose a ball!

im not sure if this is an idea or not, but can you get another loan from a bank or something. pay off the loan you have now, and re pay the bank instead? if you got out another loan surely the terms will be different?

Except that his credit score may be less as a result of being scored by this company, scored by the bank, and being in arrears on this account. So the odds are the bank will  give him a worse rate and he'll be deeper in the dog-doos than before.

LOL, my plan backfired on me! Damn rich people...

I'm thinking I'll just pay $10 a month till next years tax returns.

twiistaaa, thanks. but I think I would be better off trying to make payments of some sort since this is a federal loan which impacts my credit more than a regular loan. Good idea though.

badhq... nice to hear from you. I don't see you much latley. Course, I'm not real active these days.
