Uh.........no. Taiwan basically consists of a series of occupations by Chinese dissidents. But you still aren't listening to what I'm saying.

The definition of statehood is recognition. Taiwan is recognised as a part of China. Therefore it is part of China, regardless of what level of independence it may or may not have.

That's basically the current benchmark of statehood. If you have enough recognition to be a state, then those who recognise you can get you into the UN.

China's threats to attack Taiwan (in it's view) is telling Taiwan not to secede. It's basically putting down a rebel insurgency.
