Why is it that we, as humans, need to preach and teach equality to ourselves and others? For a large portion of human history, there has been at least one group that holds dear the idea of inferiority in others through race, religion, or any other distinguishing characteristic. There are still those who hold onto these beliefs based on nothing scientific at all. The Declaration of Independence said something we all should have known, that all men (i.e. mankind) are created equal, but hundreds of years later people still are yet to get the message. What could explain why we don't treat others as we wish to be treated, as the Golden Rule suggests? Is it just the fear of things that are in any way different from us?

I think governments are the main cause of this. You need people at the top and bottom of the food chain for governments to survive.

The more educated the people are, the more threat to the governments power they are.

Just a thought

Human nature.  Everyone, at some part, in some way, is concerned about themself first over strangers.   As for racial/gender boundaries

Some people are plain stupid.  I seriously think that anyone who thinks thier sex or race is superior, has an inferiority complex, or is just a plain idiot.

That's a huge issue to discuss, but at the base is, personal insecurity, self hatred, jealousy, intolerance, and ignorance.
