I turned on my PC the other day and got the BSOD. Restarted, still got BSOD. Reinstalled Vista, crashed with.... yep u guessed it BSOD. Reinstalled XP, still got BSOD during installation. Thought it was the motherboard. Bought an Asus board today. Replaced my old board with the new 1. Reinstalled XP, hangs and stalls about 2/3 way thru installation.
Before i had the HDD cleaned and scrubbed, it worked like a charm as an external HDD.
So my dad-in-law had the HDD scrubbed clean with a commercial HDD cleaner. and installed XP on one of his PCs not a problem. Friggin thing just wont work on my PC....

Any ideas? .... and yeah buying a new HDD is right up there as a viable solution.

HDD is a 200GB IDE 7200RPM

And scrubbing your HD? What happened to being gentle with your components?
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

I bet your power supply may be at fault if the drive works fine on another PC. Buy one of those little $5 PSU checker things and test your plugs. Most likely, one line is dead on it's way to the HD.

To test, next time you get BSOD, remove the hard drive and run chkdsk /f on it from a good computer. If it finds errors, most likely the drive was in write mode when it lost power for a second, causing errors and a BSOD.
