Why can't they make a Plug-in Hybrid with Solar Panels on the roof?  I don't understand?  Why are they not making this?

Any American manufacture who does this would easily out produce the Toyota Prius.  Are there laws?  Is the Oil Lobby stopping them?

Technology too expensive?

If you could make a Hybrid that was also Flex-fuel (ran on gasoline/petrol and biofuels), is that the holy grail for the next 20 years until Hydrogen powered cars are on the market?

Just wait until there isn't oil anymore and you'll see hybrid cars magically appear in the market.

But I could be wrong.

Might be something to do with the weight of the panels needed to provide enough power to move a vehicle. On a small unmanned scale, its been done.  As technology improves in this area, I'm sure it will be done soon.  Just don't try driving at night, or when its cloudy, or if you live near a bridge or tunnel.

Its not a 100% solar powered car.  The solar panels supplement the Plug-in battery when you are in sunlight.

See I drive a total of 20 miles/day.  I park my car in a roofless parking lot - plenty of sun.

I want a car that is a hybrid, so I have power going up hills or if I decide to drive to Las Vegas, but the ability to plug-in to recharge the battery with a normal 110 volt outlet in my garage.

The Solar Panels at my work would recharge the battery first and any excess would be used to cool the interior.
