I think it's ok to extract information from suspects. Just treat them like you would if you're trying to bust some criminal ring, they are after all, criminals.

However when people start talking about how Flamethrowers and Mustard gas needs to be brought back, you have to question it. There is a line we mustn't cross otherwise we'd just end up being like them.

Ya, do you honestly believe, criminals do not "slip and fall" resulting in a black eye in the interogation rooms? Believe me, if a kid was help hostage at an undisclosed place facing death, the person in custody who knows all about WILL talk one way or another.

But won't torture get weak innocent people to confess things they've never done? I know that torture is harsh, and I don't know how much I could take myself. Wouldn't you, maybe, if you were innocent, simply confess to some made up thing in the end?

Do not tell me I need to understand them or listen to them AFTER the fact. Once they kill civilians there is nothing they have to say to justify it or make me pause in my belief that they should die.

Lowing, I don't give a monkey's fuck what happens to terrorists but what about the innocent people who are unjustly put through the same unfair treatment? I had relatives taken without any evidence and locked up for an indefinite amount of time thanks to the British policy of internment without trial (basically the idea that every Irish man or woman is to be regarded as a potential terrorist and can be taken and held in prison on the slightest suspicion). That kind of shit is not on and it just breeds more resentment and validates the warped ideas of true extremists.

Plus, if you're gonna act like a bunch of cunts why not just leave Saddam in power and save yourselves loads of cash?

Erm. Who has been doing any appeasing? What we do in Europe is correct: you hear continuously of scores of terror arrests, foiled plans, seized assets. Why only today Italy have uncovered an attempted bombing: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6909961.stm. This isn't a war lowing - this is dealing with criminality, plain and simple. Old decent upstanding Europe won't be doing any 'uniting' with the likes of Bush and his cohorts any time soon.

It's rather short-sighted that you view our successful approach towards terror as appeasement. The Iraq war has increased global terrorism no end.

No there is every reason for why any non-muslim nation might be threatened by Islamic extremism, especially countries like Italy who have sizeable muslim minorities. You mistakenly think I don't realise that there is a very real issue here when I do. Terrorism is not something you can defeat. Can't you understand that? IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DEFEAT AN IDEOLOGY HELD TO BY PEOPLE WHO DON'T WEAR UNIFORMS. It is something you manage, something you combat through intelligence and policing, something you minimise, something you prevent. None of which was achieved by action in Iraq or in fact Afghanistan.
