Hello everyone.

My Specs:
AMD 4400 Dule Core 64 bit (939)
4GB of ram DDR 400
250WD HD
Abit AN8-V mobo
650w coolmaster psu
8800GTS 640

Well here goes. Im wondering if you guys think the above pc should be able to game in vista ok? The same system using a 7950GTS on XP worked really nicely in games. Then it broke so I upgraded to my 8800GTS and got Vista 64 HP. Can you see what could be holding my pc back in games? When I go into a game I find Im getting 20 less fps than my friend who is running an almost identicle system. The only difference is he uses an Intel Core 2 E6600. In pretty much everygame he gets 20- 30 more fps. When I go into the task manager during games to look at my cpu usage it will sometimes go up to 95%. Is this CPU just not good enough? If not, could someone help me O/C is please as Ive never done it with a CPU.

Thanks

it's your processor.

The two bars highlighted in read indicate the e6600 (higher one) and your 4400... the difference, ~20 fps

Well, when I installed Vista it kinda installs everything for you. I will update though as I see there are ones out this month. Could it be that?

Hi Onidax! Your system specs are quite good, bar the old motherboard and CPU (in comparison with Intel's C2D and C4Ds etc) - your CPU could be holding you back at a bit. I recommend that you get rid of your 939 components (CPU, motherboard and RAM) and invest into a Core 2 Duo. Price drops tomorrow will make it very cheap! I recommend an E6420 or something along the lines of that. That will at least be on par, if not a lot faster, than your current system.

Also, RAM is very cheap at the minute too. 4GB of DDR2 would certainly set you on your way! Vista itself does use a lot of memory (hence the recommended minimum amount of 2GB) but 4GB would be able to handle it by a long shot! You have a very nice card, but your other components do need upgraded a bit ideally. Your PSU is fine, so you shouldn't worry about changing that unless you really want to.

Hope this helps!
