I have no idea why in the hell I am lagging like crazy on almost every server I go on?! I have on average 6000kbps down 350 kbps up from speedtest.net and I usually get an ingame ping of 44 but I always ALWAYS receive in game lag(this is definitely not due to graphics because I have 60-70 more or so constantly depending on map.) Is there a tweak/userconfig.txt or something of the like that I can change to change this? I basically can't play this game smooth online.

sometimes i lag so bad i can type something and it doesnt show up for a few sec same with kills or someone being promoted
its freaky to see someone say congrats then 4-8 sec later u see someone get promoted
if its the someone doesnt die its the server if not then its ur computer or net

For example, sometimes people will pop out of nowhere when I know for a fact they weren't there when I look in that direction before. It like studders and I skip a lot or something.
Post your rig specs please. Maybe people here can help you.
sounds like server lag. or maybe your netfarcus wrote:

granted this isn't the fastest laptop for gaming, it does decent enough for me to play CS:S around 50-60fps at 1028x768 with 2xaa. I get 40-80fps for bf2 online and offline but whenever I go online it gives me the worst lag ever WTF?!
Btw I have no problem online with CS:S, none what so ever! I'm quite sure 6000kbps down/350-400kbps up is not the problem as that is my internet speed.

But are you on Wireless or are you using cable or any sort of those? Because I thought Battlefield 2 asked more from your internet speed / connection than CS:S? Maybe it's your signal? If you are on a wireless that is.farcus wrote:

Yep, it is probably your hard drive slowing down. It happens to me alot. For about 5 minutes at the start of each game, my hard drive would be busy doing something, and it would severely lag my game in the way you described. I don't know of a fix, I just live with it for 5 minutes.
Run a check disk on your HDD. Tick both options before clicking start, You will get a message stating the check will run on your next reboot. OK this then reboot. Let the chkdsk run on the next startup. When you get to your desktop disable your swap file (rt click MY Computer, Properties, Advanced, Performance Settings, Advanced, Virtual Memory Change, Select No Paging File and click on SET, OK etc back to desktop.) Now Defrag your HDD ( do this a couple of times until you have no (or very few) red stripes). Reboot your machine and set your swap file again. The lag sounds like you have a fragmented swap file and this is causing your hard disk to 'thrash' this will make you lag like hell during gameplay.

Could be your wireless card reader cant receive enough speed compared to better onesKomet.nl wrote:

maybe the DDR memory.
Bad hardware can definitly make the game seem like it's network lagging. Before I upgraded to my current rig, I had a nice fps on high graphic settings, but there was often a nasty lag that I was sure had to do with my internet connection. However, when I put video settings down to low/medium that went away.
And that was when I ran the game on 1gb of ddr ram, 3.2ghz AMD64 3200+ processor and an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphic card.

FPS offline are generally MUCH higher.....On my old computer getting things set up I was running good at ~80 fps on single player, but on a full server I could barely play.farcus wrote:

This line just sounded kinda weird so I figured I would point out the HUGE difference in the demand between single player and a full server.
Make sure you didn't test your FPS on like a local server and consider that to be "online"
check what is maybe using your internet connection, while you are playing. (filesharing? skype? any updating software?)
check, if your firewall is set up correct.
set all settings on low/off (including the sound)
clean your hdd from old tempfiles etc and then let a defragmentation run over it.
see, if you can specify the amount of ram, that is reserved for your graphics card.
if you have a clean computer, without malware and programs using traffic, when you play, start with the lowest settings and try them ingame.
